Default Curious about the phone mic location

I once read what Don T. referred to as a 'Dung Beetle on his A-Pillar" defined as the bluetooth phone mic but I don't have anything like that on the A-pillar so can someone tell me where it's located? Looking at S-Typers post on headliners, I see his there and it got me curious again.

I'm assuming it's in the overhead console but only guessing. I've looked at wiring diagrams from 07-09 and all of them show the mic on the pillar.

It's in the a pillar, drivers side, behind the fabric in the early cars, later cars it was externally mounted on the pillar.

It is on the left A Pillar about 5/8 to 2/3 up from the dashboard and looks kind of like slotted beetle or mound protruding from the A pillar.

Yep, on my 2007, its inside the A-pillar, unexposed but not as efficient as the later dung beetles.

My Bluetooth phone never worked properly since the day I purchased the car 4 years ago. I could hear the callers fine but got tired of hearing from the callers that they were unable to hear me. I finally disabled the Bluetooth as I generally only drive my car occasionally. Using the phone is not a priority. Enjoying the ride is.

Thank gentlemen.
I presume it was an attempt to improve sound quality as KJ07xk is pointing out.

My wife says she can hear me just fine. In fact I'm fairly certain she wishes the reception was a little more "buggy".

There was even a service bulletin on this: JTB00021
"Phone Call Quality Poor to a Third Party – Repair Procedure"
Where the solution is to replace the microphone that is inside the A-pillar, with one mounted on the outside, and depending on the VIN, reconfigure the Bluetooth module software via SDD.
