Default Dead headlight , what to check , where to buy , how to

When I left for work this morning the passenger side headlight was not working,,running light and side light were all fine,
there was no indication on the dashboard,I would have thought a dead headlight would give some kind of warning light like everything else in this car does. DOnt know if it matter but I have the adaptive headlights
1. How do I know if its bulb or the bulb driver/module?
2. If it is bulb where is a good place to get them?
3. Should I go ahead and replace both sides while I am at it so they match?
4, Good "how to" video you can recommend ?
Thanks.

Before buying any parts, I'd look through the Workshop Manual and Electrical Guides. They're in the Stickies at the top of this Forum.

Read these threads:

Good luck!

When all else fails, there's always the dealer.

Thank you for the links but those are all talking about the adaptive part not working correctly,,
mine is just light not coming on. So it is either the bulb or the HID ballast/module.
Im just so swamped at work trying to do some pre-prep by getting all the info before I attempt to
take bulb out.

1. Are all the bulbs not working, or only the headlight? High beam, low or both? Which other bulbs in the pod are not working?
2. The headlight pod is easily removed via three bolts, one of which is under the left wheel fender. When you do, give the connector a contact cleaner spray and see if any pins are shifted.
3. Once removed, the light is easily access to replace bulbs.
4. The xenon bulb is a D1S.
5. These pods are built by Hella, and some suffer from wire degradation due to heat over many years usage. When you pull the pod, open the Xenon bulb access port, and carefully examine the condition of the wiring. If there is wire rot, be extremely careful replacing the bulb, to avoid moving the wiring in any way.. Also, if the wiring is rotted, it may be (but not necessarily is) the cause of the pod inability to light.
6. Where to buy is worth considering after you define problem. These lights are very expensive and sometimes hard to find.

So, examine it, pull it and look for wiring problems inside. The get back with what you found.

I'd replace both bulbs to make sure that they're both the USA color.

This should help:

P.S. Obviously, if both headlights work after installing new bulbs, your ballasts are OK.

All the bulbs(running/turn/side) work except the headlight bulb (hi/low)
I am trying to get home earlier tomorrow so i can tackle this, if the light pods are easy enough to remove Ill try cleaning contacts and swapping bulbs from side to side to narrow down the problem.
Thanks for the help.

Page 2295 and later in the workshop manual. Take out the bulb. Go on to Rock Auto or other parts center. Compare bulbs and buy. Don't touch with fingers while reinstalling. Use latex gloves.

If you really want to know....take out headlamp bulb from working side and put in place on other side. If it works, then you know that it is the bulb that is bad.

Bulb replacement is also described in your Owner’s Manual.
I think you’ll find the bulb types are listed as well.

Also, could be broken earth connection behind right side front wheel, but would usually give warning that indicator (turn signal) was faulty. Definitely try the swap bulb thing first.
