Default Dealer reviews [sales & service]

Friends and Jaguar Family. This would be a great spot to post your reviews about a dealer experience - even better if we could petition it for a sticky... Some good guidelines without being too governistic could be as follows:

-Clearly articulate if it was a sale or service.
-Name and location of the dealer.
-If it was service - please state is modifications were involved and how the dealer reacted.
-Please make every attempt to be objective and not rant.

Seems like good criteria, maybe PM me if you want something added so we don't end up with a thread discussing what to include and I'll edit this. Or we can collaborate here and have a new thread...

1st time Jaguar XKR owner with 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition (rare car only 200 converts imported into USA).

After having car delivered I took the car to Garcia Jaguar located in El Paso, Texas.

I called before hand and spoke with the Jaguar Tech Writer Carlos who was very cordial.
I made an appointment and drove down to Garcia Jaguar 60 miles away.
I was the second car in line for service that day and the overall service department was excellent. They took time to explain any questions that I had. I also had the opportunity to speak directly with the service tech who inspected the XKR and completed the oil and filter change.

I had an oil change and filter completed, and then they did their multi-check of the car, and found that 2 bulbs in the trunk had been removed. They replaced the bulbs then sat down with me and provided their opinion on the car, which ended up being in top shape. The cost for service was $120.00

My cars VIN number and all personal information was entered into their computer system. I had lots of questions and they spent time answering all of them.

For the first visit it went well and I would recommend Garcia Jaguar in El Paso, TX if service is needed on your car.

Sharing my experience with Jaguar, Novi MI. Apologizing in advance for giving you a life story here.

You've requested I try to stay objective and not rant... but the only thing positive about this experience is that they vacuumed my interior really nice.

I bought my x-type fairly cheap, and wanted to get it inspected right away. I made an appointment, and stated a couple concerns when I arrived. One being low coolant in the reservoir, and an engine whine. They gave me the run down on everything they were going to do. Engine diagnostics would not be included (seriously must be the easiest work they have to do, but couldn't be bothered for the price of their usual oil change/service inspection. but this is probably typical for the entire brand). They asked if I would be hanging around, and welcomed me to hang out in the lobby where there's coffee, television, magazines, etc.

I quickly read both of the two magazines that interested me, watched a couple shows on my phone, and was started to get bored. Mind you there was a giant glass door wall right next to this lobby where they drove cars from the show floor in and out of the garage. I was periodically checking to see if they've started on my car yet, and secondly because there were some cool cars driving into there (including what looked like an old Mark V). Looked around the show room a bit, peeked back in and still didn't see my car in there. I left for a quick breakfast lunch (been there for almost 4 hours at this point and yet to have breakfast, and I showed up right as they opened).

I come back 20 minutes later and they told me that my car was finished and they were just drawing up some estimates for me. So they did an oil change, topped off all my fluids, and did a thorough inspection in less than 20 minutes? Needless to say this seemed unlikely. But even at this point my patience was a bit tried. I was there for over another hour at this point. I was looking at some of the XFs in the show room, reading, casually trying to make some conversation with some of the show room staff (people who appeared to have nothing better to do.) but couldn't be bothered.

After peeking back in the garage a few more times and back to those XFs the service rep finally came out to the show room. He had a couple other people with him. Maybe I"m thinking too much of that but it felt a bit like I was being escorted out of the show room. I couldn't see any reason why. I definitely wasn't loitering. I was well dressed and groomed, and not wandering around looking like a bum or something.

The guy had written up $8k worth of estimates. They were all laughable and outrageously expensive. They said the low reservoir was due to a severe radiator hose leak and the car was un-drivable. This would cost $1500 for them to fix. Doing my own research, the job would cost me an hour of my time and $80s for the hose and some new intake manifold gaskets to do myself. I haven't done it yet and i'm still driving it around every day, so this obviously isn't an "undrivable car" They claimed my battery was cracked, my headlights are broken, and several other outrageous things I can clearly see with my own eyes aren't true. I asked about the engine wine I was concerned about and the service rep just shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know.

Check on the car and the oil is still dirty, and that reservoir is still half empty They washed it, vacuumed it, and charged me $120. It's a shame, I know these cars (or any car at this age) needs some strict maintenance and the people who know the cars best, I can not trust.

We have a slight problem with a thread of this nature, in that the 'dealers' are not generally members of the forum and are thus not able to reply to a comment or observation.

Whilst no dealer is ever likely to object to a positive comment, they are simply not present here to comment on any negative individual experience.

It is quite possible and plausible that for every 1000 customers that a dealer sees, there may very well be one that went 'wrong' and that one is going to be the one that we see on the forum.

We do have quite a few dealer employees/techs that are on the forum and like everyone else they strive to do the best job that they can. (no names mentioned but I know of one great guy around here who is prepared to hold his hands up, if in his own words he has screwed up, and is thus prepared to take the hit).

If a person has a problem with any garage, dealer or otherwise, they should take it up with the supplier of the service, and if not satisfied then take the matter further using the correct tools.

A public open forum, is not one of the correct tools.

This is one of the reasons why a thread of this nature is a non starter around here.

Nothing against the OP or any of the participants so far, there are other forums that specialize in the naming and shaming/reviewing game, we are not one of them.

So it is for these reasons + others that this thread is now closed.
