I would recommend the paintless removal. I had my xkr done. (Wife opened door into sign pole) it hit on the door crease black car, came out flawless for $150. Couldn't be happier

Years ago I had a minor ding on my passenger door of my '05XK and used a service to pull it. I watched the whole process and was mortified seeing the guy using open torch flames to repeatedly heat the door metal to make it more pliable. He did that right through the painted surface. Yuck... could not possibly do much good for the paint!!! It did not come out perfect, just OK. If viewed from particular angles at particular lighting I could still see the imperfection.
So, now I go though the trouble of parking my Jags as far away from anyone as possible in wide spots. So far, the '08XK (sold), the '12 XJL and the '12XF have been dingless...

The wife's black XC90 had 14 parking lot dings in the doors and he corrected them all for $175. Looks like new.
This was a small indy shop that did a lot of Volvo work. He let me watch the process and his finesse was amazing. The entire process took him a bit over an hour.
Research, research and research.
Perhaps your local JLR dealer would give you a referral.

Compressed air and blow dryer
Hey Ghost,
Since it sounds like you want to try a DIY option first. Try the blow dryer followed by compressed air spray.
There are a few youtube videos on it and I would think is the most harmless attempt you could make at home.
From what I've seen it may only be effective on larger dents but since our cars are aluminum maybe it reacts differently and could work for smaller ones too.

You'll get better rates for PDR via an auto dealership than just calling a service, but shop around either way. When I called a PDR for the XK, he wanted at least triple what I paid through my buddies dealership; granted he did not make money on me. I plan another round this year. PDR's have a keen eye since they charge per dent.

Don't want this to sound self serving, but as President of DentPro, here's our website http://www.dentpro.com/ I can honestly say, do not try to do it yourself. heating with flames and the like can end up with disastrous results.
We are the largest independently owned PDR company, with 25 years of experience. As such, my partner and I have have seen some really "botched-up" work from untrained people.
The cost, usually runs, around $75 for a dent, the size of a credit card. In our case, the aluminium body can be a bit tricky, however, if a trained, certified technician performs the work, you'll never never know a dent was there.

Thanks guys for all the info. I went to Autozone and they said the their dent pullers are for 3 inches or bigger dents. Mine is only a 1/4 inch door ding. Hardly noticeable unless you look at it on an angle but noticeable enough that I want it fixed...LOL. It's on the Rover not Jag so it's not aluminum paneling. I think my 2 options is the paintless dent removal shop through my Rover dealer or bodyshop to pull and repaint the section. The car is only 1.5 years old so I rather not repaint that section but my dealer says it'll probably cost $150 just to remove the 1/4 inch ding. I did find out which company does the dent removal at the dealer and I called them directly but they advised they will only do the repaires at a dealer. I asked if it'll be less expensive if I go directly with them and they said it'll cost the same. I also found out this mobile dent place has saturated the market here. I called my Mercedes and Lexus dealers and they both use the same mobile dent company as the LR dealer. I know they have to slide something between the window and door panel to push the dent out from the inside. I just hope they won't damage any internal mechanism inside the door. I also would hate of them to remove the door panel. In my previous cars, whenever the dealer removes the door panel, it's never the same....it's either loose or I find scuff marks on the leather panel.

Late I know but I had this exact scenario, a small but noticable to me dent...
I actually tried this hairdryer then I sprayed a can of compressed air which I had turned upside down and it worked a fair bit. My car at the time was an Audi TT mk II so its body was very tough and made of aluminium too.
From speaking to a couple PDR companies they hate Aluminuim cars for small dents, the key they said is the sooner you can 'rectify' things the better, otherwise the metal gets use to the dent. Made me laugh at the time, but it was a consistant message from them.

just had 2 dents removed from my wife's XK8 by ED Hakala of Auburn WA; $125 and perfect result ..................have used him before, always perfect results.
I did remove the fender liner myself; and when he did my Acura MDX hatch a few years ago I also removed the liner............
He said Al. is no problem for him............we too always park away in a corner, so far so good with the XK.
Don't try DIY.............really. And I'm a dedicated DIYer with over 60 yrs experience!!!!
Cheers, Adrian

Wow..that's a great price. I decided to wait for more dents before getting it done. I'll probably go with my Land Rover dealer (I also let my LR dealer do my XKR oil change as I don't like my Jag dealer) as they quoted $75 per dent.
