Question Different color headlights

Not quite sure if different types of bulbs, or moisture in the lens. Any ideas? How hard is it to replace HID bulbs only?

reddish headlamp lets in a slight amount of moisture, then evaporates..bulbs or moisture?

I thought 2012+ Jaguars had LED headlights.

Has it always been this way for you?

High power White LED's are blue LED's with a phosphorous layer made up of many different mixed substances that causes the blue to be shifted into different wavelengths.

Poor manufacturing quality control from one unit to another could result in what you see.

You can reach a temperature in the unit that can shift the output, but operating at that temperature would be result in pre-mature failure and loss of intensity.

Water Vapor obstructs red more than it does blue, so water vapor would not be causing it to shift red in color.

Is there a noticeable temperature difference left/right?

I lean on the side that one may have been replaced, and the manufacturing of the phosphors of the replacement did not have a match to what it replaced.

If it isn't LED's and I'm mistaken that the later cars use them as headlights, then color difference would be the temperature of the light emitting surface not matching left to right, either from failure(on the red side), or a non matching replacement.

Ditto, if HID's, they change color and produce less light as they age. Mine at 10 years old were dimmer than the fog lights and a real hazard on a rainy night. Newegg had the best deal on the elements and they were pretty easy to swap out.

Easy to replace, and they are indeed HID D1S bulbs. The OE standard for most cars is 4300K, which is a warmer but brightest of the color temp choices. You can go cooler, bluer but at a cost in brightness.

HID bulbs have temperature rating that corresponds to color, but they also color-shift with age. Typically you start with blue-ish white and it moves to purple. However, color-shifting is not necessary corresponds to impending demise of the bulb. I once had HID light turn deep purple... and it was still going. If you like color-effects, you can order a bulb that produces them from new. However, due to how our eyes work, the best color is 4300K.

Download the free X150 service manual .pdf from the jagrepair site in the sticky. Last time I needed it I had to search the site for it. It'll help immensely.

Per the lamps, open hood, remove the big back screw on cover. Remove the cable from the lamp. Twist to remove the holder and lamp from the module. Squeeze the clam shell to open the latch which frees the bulb from the holder. Getting the clam shell holder out of the module was the hardest part for me because I took it apart in the lamp housing. Don't be me...
