Default DIY - Modules Upgrade

Greetings,

I have a 2007 XK and in recent dealings with a service provider, I was told that my XK could receive updates to various modules.

I have extensive background working with massive amounts of computers ranging from windows, Linux, Unix, BSD, Mac and the list goes on and on.

I was wondering what difficulties can be had if I were to undergo these procedures myself. Also what are the requirements hardware/software that are needed.

Are these simply flash upgrades? Example: is it simply a connection from PC to Jaguar computer via hardware connection and roll out updates?

How could I acquire the most recent patches etc.

Thanks for your help, I look forward to your responses.

And youre going to get the ongoing updates from jaguar how? Adn you know that doing them wrong can make certain modules bricks! We just had this issue come to us on key programming from a indie jag shop for a added key. 2 new keys and a new intrument pack later.... $125 for reflash vs software and correct vcm to me would be like spending $30k on a hybrid to save $2k a yr in gas. $30k buys alot of gas just my .02

What would these upgrades do? Performance tuning? Bug Fixes? .. if it is only the last one.. if it aint broken.. don't try to fix it.. is my motto

yes please follow that rule in Abu Dhabi
but we here in the states have crap ethanol to deal with and one reflash avail is to fix issues with cold/hot starts and no starts due to ethanol. So NOT fixing a issue cause its not broke could leave you BROKE and when you dont want to be
plus upgrades to ehance drivability, performance, entertainment etc... you certainly didnt realise you put on all that weight till you looked at your younger pictures either. Poor drivabilty etc happens so slowly youde never even realise it. These are examples dont everyone run out and think you need upgrades, Many times we look and find that software is up to dat but really depends on model, yr and past work performed. You may have never gone in for a reflash, but were in for a repair that showed a reflash to be done and we did it as part of a repair say for p0128 thermostat below threshold on certain vin ranges for SC engines

Well for starters, there was a bulletin released about the ambient temp reading zero at approximatly 59F. This is something I was hoping to update myself.

Please no snarky remarks about this post. I respect your professional opinions, not the "your new to the forum so your ignorant" remarks.

Thanks,

Brutal,

Are you a service provider? I think I am acquainted with the "Indy Shop" you mentioned. In fact, I am certain of it. That story was shared with me first hand by the proprietor himself.

If you are a service provider, I want to get in touch with you about my continued services.

Thanks,

Thanks,
That can be a loose conection to the ambient temp sensor in the drivers mirror. But the bulleting referances that and that the climate control subs in incorrect info and the ecu will change that and read correctly after and certain amount if Ign off time. Dont hold my feet to the fire as Ive had 1 car, really great long time cust with it and she called on my cell one night after she just got the car(2013 XFR). It did indeed fix itself and it was like the bulletin stated. It acutally scrolled from ambient to like -30* and in between. So it may not have to have anything done. If youre familiar with pcs and software then you know the issues that can come up. Sent you a PM

There are two things that separate updating the firmware on your car from updating the firmware on say your phone.

1. You car is worth 10's of thousands of dollars. If you brick your phone chances are you just replace it. If you brick your car you could be in for thousands of dollars in new hardware and labor.

2. Every time you get into your car you are putting your life in the hands of the engineers who designed the beast. This is why the automotive manufacturers place security measures around flashing. If they opened up the ECUs and allowed anybody to flash anything, there could be safety concerns that they just don't want to deal with.

Having said this there is something called the "right to repair" act. The right to repair act includes the right to repair/flash electronic controllers. I worked in the trucking industry where this is a big deal. With trucks you can have the same engine sold at different price points because the software limits the HP/Torque. If anybody can flash anything, then nobody would buy the more expensive engine. Basically it is complicated and the industry is trying to fight the right to repair act.

Ambient temp sensor in the mirror? On a 2007? On my 2007 and others it's located in the very front of the car and can be viewed by getting down and looking in the oval intake around the C/L of the car.

If I've mis-spoke..........sorry 'bout that. Ignore me.

So at the end of the line, what is the problem, software?

Also, where can I acquire a service/repair manual? For the simple things in life.

Lastly, where can I go to buy random parts? Like those screw clip things that are used in the cover over the cabin filter and the plastic cover that protects the wiper blade pivot point.

Best Regards,
