Default Error codes - 2007 XKR

I'm down in FL, Jag is up in IL with driver I hired to bring it down. He put Harbor Freight code reader on it after Check Engine light came on. Errors: $7E8: Engine and $7E9: A/T. No submenus available. Has anyone dealt with these before? DIY or have it hauled to dealer? Many thanks, Mike

$7E8 and the $7E9 are fuel/ air intake codes, as for the P1326. This code is set when the knock sensor detects vibrations from engine rod knock, however, it may be set falsely due to incorrect knock sensor logic programming in the engine control module.

Harbor Freight code reader???
I'd thing it'd have the 'normal' P0-type codes.
I'd think those codes would indicate LEAN FUEL CONDITION BANK ONE and LEAN FUEL CONDITION BANK TWO. Also probably a LEAN FUEL CONDITION, as a general for both sides.
Those two would probably mean a Vacuum Leak somewhere.
I'd say have dude bring it to an Autozone or O'Reilley or some other parts place and have the real codes pulled.

I'd also say that probably there's a vacuum leak, and it'd probably be somewhere towards the area where the throttle body is located.

Why did he put a code reader on it? What exactly happened before this? Those are NOT error codes, they are identifiers for the Engine and the Transmission only.

Generic google search strikes again...

Yes, the actual codes, usually a letter followed by a series of numbers.

Thank you for the quick reply - I will see what I can find out and update. Given the logistics, probably looking at a 40 mile tow to dealer and then God knows what. Better now than halfway down here in the middle of nowhere.

Has the car been sitting for some time? Is it driven often? Is a battery tender/maintainer used? How old is the battery?

The question I'd be asking is "how many miles elapsed since the last reset?"

If someone cleared the codes just before you purchased the car, I'd have your driver reverse course .

I've owned the car for four years, just getting it moved to new home.
