Default EXTENDED WARRANTY - Happy new owner question

We recently added a 2007 XKR to our happy family and am looking for info on an extended warranty through Jaguar.

Over on the Corvette Forums, they have dealers that discount the GMPP and I was wondering if any forum sponsoring dealers, do that for Jaguars?

We would like to extend the warranty to 7yrs/100k miles and was quoted by my local dealer at $7334.00. I know the XKR costs more than a Corvette, but thats a huge delta in price.

Any help or info would be GREATLY appreciated.

Rich

Can't help you with the warranty question, Rich but I wanted to say welcome from another ex-corvette forum member. I got rid of my '71 last week in order to get my '07 xkr. Luckily I was able to find one that was certified and still in warranty. Good luck!

You can purchase a Jaguar extended warranty any time before the base warranty expires. The last time I checked, about a year ago, it was about $2000 for an additional 2 years. They also have options to extend the Certified warranty before it expires. Check with any Jaguar dealer for details. Good luck with your new Jag.

Was the $7334 to extend to 2014 or 2017? Sorapp mentioned $2000 for 2 more years.

I just spoke with my dealership here in VA. I bought an additional 4 yr/48K extended warranty for my MY07 XK but negotiated it into the total purchase price of the car.

My dealership says the price you were quoted sounds "about right," but they suggest that you barter on the price. I got my extended warranty for half of what they wanted to charge me, so you should be able to do the same! Good luck!

This past week, I purchased an extended warranty - basically a power train warranty from an on-line vendor. I had asked the dealer here in Maryland and they had quoted a third party which ranged from $3,200 (12mo./12k miles to $8,300 for 60mo/60K) over a two tier program.

I ended up paying $3,100 for a 4yr/ 100,000 (odo reading) basic warranty that includes roadside assistance. Fingers crossed!!

By the way, I'm still a member of the corvette forum and just installed ceramic brake pads this afternoon - alot easier than I thought it would be. 2008 3lt npp, z51, jetstream blue coupe. The xk and c6 look great in the garage.

Good luck with your search.

Warranty Direct just quoted me $7009 for a 5 year 100,000 mi bumper to bumper warranty which includes roadside assistance and rental vehicle. This is their luxury care package which includes coverage for the "Command Center" touchscreen controls for the audio, climate, etc. They also claim that you can make a claim as soon as "something doesn't feel right" rather than waiting until something fails outright. Is this coverage in line? A lot of $ up front, but I'm sure fixing something on this car would eat up 7 grand pretty quick!

Sounds about the same price you would pay for a 7 yr/100K mile warranty from Jaguar. If that's the case, personally I'd rather get it from the manufacturer, but maybe that's just me...

Funny - I too am a Corvette Z06 owner and long time CF member aka AFVETTE and due to medical issues with my left knee/leg am being forced to sell my Z06 and buy something with no left pedal. I have found a 2008 XK vert with about 8 months left on the factory warranty and am interested in buying an extended warranty.

Like some have mention on the CF they have "SUPPORTING DEALERS" that sell the GMPP for cost. I bought a 48 month 48K mile ZERO deductable warranry for my Z06 for $1190 from Fichnter Chevrolet. That beat the best deal I could get from my Chevy dealer by $600.

I may end up buying my extended warranty from my military CU which I've used before and never had a problem with claims. I can get a 48 to 72 month out to 100K miles for less than $2500 with a ZERO dedutable.

But are there similar Jag dealers here on the Jag Forum?

It may just be me guys but when you start having to pay an appreciable percentage (7k or 8k...you gotta be kidding me) of the cost of a car for a warranty I do two things...either 1. Stay away from the car because someone somewhere knows something I don't (especially telling if it is the dealer pricing this bad boy) or 2. Tell them to bite me and just figure on rolling the dice and/or fixing myself if something happens.
Maybe I am missing something but all in all it really doesn't say much for our illustrious cats that the dealer seems to put such a premium on extended warranties...just sayin...
