Default Fuel filler cap light on

Gas cap light on the '09 came on last week. I checked it and it was not tight, so I tightened it up. After one week, multiple start ups ( at least 10) and even topping off the tank the light continues to come on. I know it takes a while before it resets but this seems crazy. How long do I wait before getting it checked or just getting a new gas cap? thanks

You may have to take it into your dealer to get the fault cleared. It only takes a few minutes (I speak from experience). To ensure it doesn't happen again when closing it, make sure that you go past at least three clicks.

Same thing happened on my 2009 about 1 year ago. If I remember right, I cleared the warning via the Nag System, or it went out on it's own after a day or two of filling the tank and properly turning the gas cap until 3 clicks or so.

It has never happened to me again.

It may not be the cap or it may not be sealing fully.

? Nag system, did you mean Navagation or just via touchscreen for via the vehicle system?

It was via the touchscreen to clear the warning from the instrument panel.....and my problem seemed to be the filler cap not twisted on properly. Supposedly the cap has to be turned until you hear 3 clicks.
