Default Gearbox oil

I was at the dealers the dealers today and asked them about changing the gearbox oil and filter as I’ve just got 60,000. They said it’s a sealed for life unit. I told them ZF recommend it and they disagreed. I have an extended warranty with them and they said if anything went wrong I’d still be covered. Has anyone else asked dealers about doing this work? I’ve had nothing but bother with mine and I don’t trust them one bit!

Use one of the ZF authorized shops to do this for you. Hopefully you will have one close by. If not, these transmissions are used to loads of cars including BMW's etc a good specialist Indy can also help you.

Yeah I was just wondering if other dealers recommend it that’s all as I don’t trust mine.

Have an indy repair shop do it. The parts are sold as a kit which includes the pan-filter and fluid. This forum has a sponsor that is a big ZF supply shop. All in the job is around $500 and well worth it. Make sure it is from an official ZF reseller as I have read there is a lot of counterfeit ZF fluid on the market.

Jaguar's tech site for dealers says to change it but dealers are often hopeless. Go elsewhere. Find a gearbox company or a competent jag indy!!

Remember to change the electric plug sleeve while you do the service. It can't be changed unless you drop the pan. It's only about $15 so it's cheap to replace.

This might even be leaking right now as it's VERY common.

Sealed for life [of a new car warranty]. Change the oil if you want it to last past the warranty.
