Yeah, ignition coils. Did a banzai run and got a restricted performance going through 140 at WOT. Only code was for #8 misfire. I've also noticed the mileage dropped off a couple tenths the past month so it's time. 157k on the clock too...

I'm coming back to the last post on the differentials from June of last year. I'll repeat, it's something I don't focus on much and have never moved away from stock on any car so haven't educated myself.

I would like an LSD but will not spend up for a Quaife. Can you update us on what your goal is now and where you at? Like others, I'm glad you're back posting.

I know Steve_K_XK has swapped differentials (not to LSD that I recall). I got to imagine Jahummer's looked into this too. And I think Cambo has posted something to that effect but I can't find it. So I don't think there's an LSD option outside of Quaife but since you're digging, is it one of your goals to go LSD?

 

While I have no ill wishes toward you, I am looking forward to reading about the next thing that breaks. Maybe you should start YouTube channel and talk about your fixes?

 

Honestly I don't hammer on it turning at low speed on in first gear. 2nd just hooks up and it goes from there. Maybe a little wiggle in the rear as the tires figure out which is going to hold best but no DSC lamp and it figures it out before dropping power. It's never stepped out on me and I don't want it to, too many bad things happen to modern cars that try to. If I wanted to I'd see if the 1st gen LS cradle fit in the XKR body and if so just use that whole assembly with the full sized 8.8" chunk with a traction lok module. I'm not that motivated anymore. The 2nd gen 3rd member chunk swap isn't too horrible and I knew that it would physically fit so... Also, I don't miss the 3.31 gears at all. The car actually feels like a grand tourer and not grandpas gimp mobile.

I had one for my boat build and the older cars. Just became a hassle to deal with and I'm lazier than I was before. This post reminds me that I need to change the trans fluid and maybe clean the valve body. 4th is lazy on the upshift.

So today was mostly a bust. I have power to the pump but also 350k of resistance across the motor leads so it's replacement pump time. For those who are curious if you remove the plug on top of the aftercooler and you don't get coolant coming out with the engine running, your pump is dead...

I did swap the coil pack on #4 and #8 with ones from my spare engine. #4 because Jag doesn't label the cylinders like Ford does. Ford coils though so dirt cheap.

Also need gas shocks for the hood. Vise grips saved the day but...

 

Okay, dumb question time... What is the part number for the lower shock mounting bolt bushing on the front suspension? My bolt has eaten through it... Found the bolt, C2P7192

I did install the Mercedes pump last weekend. Bit of a fiasco as I took the heater core pump off first (even looked at the manual beforehand). For whatever reason the original pump worked when I powered it up off the car. I think the problem was how I had the connector routed next to the oil cooler line and it had some oil there. The Mercedes install wasn't too complicated beyond soldering the old leads to the pump terminals and filling the void with RTV. Seems to be working.

Now about that bushing...

 

I don’t believe that was ever offered as a separate piece. You may pop out the old one and try to match it up with another make or it may be easier/faster to buy a used shock on eBay and use that bushing.

 

This guy? If you push a new one in please share how. I order the ones for the rear but don't have a press :/

A friend of mine presses all his bearings, bushings, and hubs. Every time it is an adventure, but no casualties so far. Last weekend we had to bring out the torch and sledge but it worked out in the end. I always buy complete assembly. With my luck, if I try pressing it in, it will catch fire

Saw earlier you were looking to replace your coils. Which did you use? On the 4.2, the Hitachi AGC1967 are listed as OEM in some places. Also, the NGK 48927 is compatible. Don't really know which are OEM, tho.

Many years working on BMW's -- Lemfoerders were stock and had the rep for best wear on non-poly bushings. Have you found something better for a better cost in the D2P Ebay parts?

To be honest I never did get the kit. However time marches on and I'm getting a couple coil misfires popping codes so it's time to decide.

I did replace the headlamp bulbs with eBay Chinesium knockoffs for a couple bucks. Had to realign the lamps for correct light output and one oddball thing I noticed is that for some dumb reason the adaptive headlamps turned themselves on. So I get corner markers below @5mph and the inside lamp swinging above that.

 

I have been watching this build for many months and think a few years.

My question is:

How much money and time have you put into this project?

Do you feel it was worth the time, energy expent and money?

Long time, no see! Glad that you're back, and hope that all is well!

For me, the feeling of satisfaction I get from successfully fixing something far outweighs the time, money, and effort involved. It's a WHOOPIE, I DID IT! moment. And a great excuse for a cold one!

One example was when I installed WhiteXKR's remote control top kit. I thought it might be above the level of my ability, but Steve's outstanding instructions made it possible. It's overcoming a challenge, sorta like climbing my own Mt. Everest.
