Default Hit 60k miles, maintenance items?

Today is the one year anniversary of my purchase of my '07 XKR! And fittingly, I also hit 60,000 miles today.

What sorts of maintenance items should I have done at this point?

I'm thinking:

1) transmission filter/fluid service
2) cabin air filter
3) engine air filters
4) brake fluid flush

1 year of ownership and I think I'm more in love with it than ever. Definitely the most satisfying car I've had to own, and I've had 10 cars to date.

You are absolutely right, this is the most satisfying car I've ever owned as well.

I haven't hit 60k miles yet, but when I did in my XJR, it was easy: all fluids, filters and a reflash.
If I recall correctly there were some bushings replaced too.
The fluids were the best synthetic at the time.
I always wanted to install grease nipples but never got around to it.
The dealer thought it was overkill but it was peace of mind for me.

Cheers!

I know that you can replace the cabin filter and install it yourself for under $15.00. There is a thread here that provides the details on how to install the filter. This will save you quite a few bucks vs the dealer. Amazon carries the filter......and it takes less than 5 minutes to replace the old one.

I would think it would be easy to replace the engine air filters but have never done so myself. I have also read where the air filters MUST match otherwise the air filter warning light on the dash may appear. If your going to have the Jaguar Dealer do this work, then you have nothing to worry about.

Research this for your own knowledge.....

Hope this helps........

Add a thermostat and a check of all belts and hoses to your punch list.

I just replaced the thermostat because I got the P0128 code.

Do hoses ever need proactive preventive replacement?

It's more age and environment than mileage that hurts hoses. At least do a good visual and manual inspection, checking for cracks & stiffness/crunchiness. I recall giving a piece of rubber tubing on my XJS a good squeeze and having it disintegrate in my hand.

Default Coolant

I know fluids have been mentioned but for the sake of being specific, do a coolant flush as well, a lot of calc can build up faster than you think.

I did mine at 20k when I replaced the thermostat. I replaced the coolant with a no water added type made by Kroon. There is a drain plug and cut out so you don't have to remove the under tray on the front driver's side.

Plus this would be a good time to change your supercharger oil too, I believe they sell some kits on ebay UK.

Default Nice chart

It's a nice chart for reference but visual inspection is key. My coolant had some small crystals at only 20k and I changed my fuel filter at 30k just b/c I don't trust gas stations. Enough black liquid came out after banging the old one that I'm glad I did it at the half life.

Hmmm... so coolant is probably a good thing to change at this point as well.

How hard is it to change my supercharger oil myself?

Does changing the fuel filter require dropping the fuel tank?

Also, I'm wondering if I go to the Jaguar dealer and ask for a 60k mile service, are they just going to do a glorified oil change or is it actually an extensive service?

Do you have an indy shop that can do the work? No need to bring to the dealer for your punch list.

Yup, there is a good Jaguar shop over here. I haven't used them yet, though.

Part of the reason I'm hesitant on doing these items at a shop is because we are in the process of buying a house with a garage, and when I get a garage I can do these things myself! But that process is taking longer than I'd like...

I couldn't find the Maintenance guide for the older XKR, but the 2010 and up require Coolant flush and fuel filter replacement every 150,000 miles.

The only items at 60,000 are:
Air Filter
Pollin Filter
Oil and filter change

The fuel filter is external to the tank and you can use common Ford type tools to remove it. It's located on the forward left side area of the fuel tank. Those disconnect tools are cheap. In the range of five-ten bucks at AutoZone or the like.

Coolant $25, fuel filter $10 and get this Jaguar XK XK8 XKR x150 Workshop Repair Service Manual 2006 2012 | eBay

because 150,000 miles is WAY past warranty!

I'll pay the $50, do the work myself and have the peace of mind that usually has a price estimation of priceless.

Wait a minute, I did that already.

Thanks for the link, but i don't own a XK. I have a 2012 XF.

Cars aren't built the way they used to be. Following the manual will be fine.

But if you prefer having it serviced earlier, no problem.

At 60K the original poster should do EVERY box on the B schedule that applies to his car. Approx 36 items to be looked after. He knows that, but just in case...........

Default 150,000 mile coolant

A couple things Jaguar Service claims interests me like the sealed for life transmission oil and now the 150,000 mile coolant that honestly I wasn't aware was rated so high.

After researching it a little more I found these coolants are rated 150,000 miles/5 years, whichever comes first.

Just something to keep in mind and with an 07 like the OP or an 08 like mine even low mileage doesn't always protect you from wear and tear that comes with age.

Have a Happy Holidays everyone!

Good point. There are a very limited number of dealers that I go to voluntarily. And I can't say enough good about them. These are the ones that go beyond fixing an issue but actually come to out of the box thinking on enhancements... at a fair price.
Incidentally, its -28 celsius this morning... Wish I installed that block heater! One is waiting for me in Woburn, MA.
