Default How to tell 2008 XKR Portfolio

Went to look at a used XKR, was surprised to see PORTFOLIO instead of JAGUAR on the door plates. It also has the crescents in the brakes and red calipers. Wheels appear to be Cremonas as well. However the Carfax only lists XKR, doesn't say anything about PORTFOLIO. The VIN is SAJWA44C389B21040. Any way to positively tell if it is truly a Portfolio?

Shrimpburger,

I believe all of the US bound 2008 XKR Portfolio editions were delivered in Celestial Black, which is a metallic paint that appears brilliantly dark blue in the sunlight. This is different than Ebony or Midnight Metallic, two other early X150 black or black/blackish blue colors. Some of the Euro delivered 2008 XKR Portfolios were delivered in silver. I agree with the above responses that the tread plates are the giveaway, and in conjunction with the crescent rotors, Cremonas, and red calipers, you're looking at a Portfolio edition there.

Agreed. If it looks anything like mine, it's likely a genuine Portfolio. It shouldn't have a rotary gear selector, though, on a 2008.

Interesting... OP, can you confirm if the car did have the rotary gear selector?

The 2008 did not have a rotary gear selector.

According to the build spec from TOPIX, that one does...

Here is what wiki says about the Portfolio model:

None of the 2007-2009 cars (US model years) have the rotary shifter. This was introduced in 2010 and remained through the final year, 2015. For European model years subtract one (i.e. 2006-2008 and 2009-2014)

How can it have both an aluminum J gate surround and a rotary shift knob?

I know - to the best of my knowledge too, the rotary was never offered on a 4.2, but the TOPIX report says that car was configured with it. XFs always had the rotary and they were available in 2008 so it's not impossible I guess - could be the original owner was willing to pay top dollar for a special order. That's why I asked the OP if they spotted it when they viewed the car.

No, it's just an error in Topix, I've found lots of errors recorded over the years. Not really surprising anymore.

The car in question is a 2008 Portfolio, it does not have a rotary shifter.
