Default Ignition problem

Hi forum.
looking for any helpful advice…
2009 5l sc xkr, accelerating onto motorway up to motorway speed, amber check engine, restricted performance appeared, fuel burning in exhaust. Stopped, checked codes P0301 then P0300. Eventually car would turn over but not start.
recovery truck home. Pulled coils and plugs, replaced with all new. Cylinder 1 plug was wet.
still turning, sparking but no fire.
All fuel pumps ok, pressure ok.
had to come back offshore to work so ran out of time to go further.
im thinking several causes but cylinder 1 fuel injector open seems likely, flooding that cylinder…
would the ecu shut down all cylinders on both banks? Or am I barking up the wrong tree…
anyone had the same issues?
thanks for any input

James.

Faulty High Pressure Injector!!!
A stuck open injector will dump fuel into that cylinder and also greatly reduce the rail pressure which causes the other three injectors to run lean.
Raw fuel is being pumped into your crankcase and out your exhaust, which could also damage your catalytic converter on that side.
This is somewhat common on the GDI 5.0 engines.

This happened to me and a few other forum members.
My cost to repair was around USD $2000, but that included a few extra items. That was from a European Auto Specialist shop and not a Jaguar dealer.

Hi Ceejay,
this is my hunch also. Only thing that doesn’t add up is the car should start or try to start on the other bank of 4
Not sure if the ecu is blocking both banks because of 1 side.

Well, DON'T do this, and don't even try. Every time you crank you are dumping raw fuel into the crank case and diluting your oil. You are also dumping raw fuel into your #1 exhaust port and contaminating your catalytic converter.
Open your oil fill cap and smell... it will undoubtedly smell of petrol. Somewhat to a lesser degree, your exhaust tail pipe will also have a stronger petrol smell than normal.
When it happened to my car, I did drive it home limping on four cylinders, and it ran like poopies. It was only three miles, but I still wish I hadn't done that.
While first trying to figure out WTH, I ran it a couple times in my garage for a minute. The third time I tried it wouldn't start at all.

Jim, check on ebay the injectors can be had for around £80-£100 each, would recommend changing them all, but if pennies are scarce (and you are Scottish!) Then just change the bank that's causing issues.

You may as well change the plugs as well which are due at 105k miles or 10yrs...unless already done...certainly check their condition as could be fried. Again can be had for £12 each or else you could go to Jaguar who will charge you circa £50 a pop

What George said above, but if your car is left for long periods off a charger, or indeed it's on the original battery it may be worthwhile having it tested/charged/replaced as appropriate.

Glad George can offer you some good advice in garages.

Oh, James how long have you owned your XKR?

Thanks gents.
George, I did call Ali @ Macmillan, he’s booked solid until end of June. I’ve done the plugs and all new coils last week thinking I had it sussed, that’s when I noticed the wet cylinder.
I’m offshore for another 12 days, blocked / open injector is looking like the culprit.
New oil and filter on the cards also.
I’ll post update on here soon as I’m home and back under the bonnet.
thanks again.
Marky, had the car just over a year, it’s at a bad age and has needed a few jobs doing over the last few months.
new intercooler
lower rear suspension arms
2 wheel bearings
battery
front and rear brakes
wheel nuts. (Alloy wheel refurb guy broke one)
rear number plate light housings.

it’s not beat me yet…😂
