A second injector has gone bad in my 2011 XK convertible, 40k miles on the clock. First one was fixed by my mechanic and the item cost about £380. I'd like to replace all of them but at that price it's a killer. He says that the high pressure Denso injector is a necessary expense. However I have seen Bosch ones on eBay at under £100 with a 5 year warranty! Are they a risky choice? What would you do? My 1998 XKR has done 90K with no injector problem! Touch Wood!!

If it ain't broke, it's just a matter of time!
Ouch on that £380, mine was like $120, so like £86 for the Denso. That's still a great expense for all eight of them. Plus, if a shop does it the full cost would be like $3500, at a dealer near $5000.
I think maybe you should shop around before you decide.
This is Rock Auto for the Bosch:
That said Ive seen them (bosch and denso) for around the £120 mark on ebay new...perhaps OP should try there first as sounds like he was ripped off the first time.

I wasn't advising the use of Rock Auto, just demonstrating the cost. If OP can't find cheap ones anywhere, he could always get a friendly forum member to receive an order and then forward it to UK.

I'm all for preventative maintenance but for me that tips over the line into expensive overkill.
The trouble with the injectors is it's impossible to predict IF or WHEN they will fail. Unlike say H2O2 sensors or coils which have a more finite lifespan, you may NEVER get another injector fail. On the other hand, you could replace the set and get one FAIL in only a few thousand miles.
I'd do the reseach, file the information for future reference and wait until it happens.

Rock Auto do post to the UK. I have used them myself for spark plugs and with postage was still cheaper than anywhere in the UK.
JTBUU2D : Cheaper injector fitted and working perfectly. 3 coil packs had failed so he replaced the lot. Cost £500 I found some for £22 each! too late however. They can also be repaired if it's just the case leaking. Which is usually the caee. U live n learn! So total bill £1130. Could be worse.

Once you break the teflon seal at the injector, you're supposed to refit the seal, or you can just replace the injector which will have a new seal. Leaks at the seal mean fuel dropping on the very hot exhaust manifolds. Not good. The injector (at non-ripoff Jaguar prices) is only $40 or so more than the seal kit and special fitting tools you'd need, so you might as well just replace all injectors while you are in there.
I had a failing injector on my X351 5.0. Local mechanic wanted to charge me Jaguar prices ($400 each x4) for the injectors. Either he is too stupid to know it's a $80 Bosch injector, or he was going to make a cool $1300 simply ordering the parts from a different place. I did the job myself.
