I use "WAZE", a GPS app, that informs me of upcoming traffic cameras, local policia, and vehicles parked along the road (radar snipers) etc.
Happy Trails....

I'll second Waze. It's probably the best chance a driver has of getting relevant speed trap notifications on their current route. Especially when traffic is sparse and there is less (or no) reflected signal to detect...

Have you guys been reading about the Waze uproar, with surface street residents entering false data in order to discourage Waze from recommending you from using their street? I haven't been using it much as I don't have a clean phone mount in the XKR but was wondering if it is still as helpful as it was when I used it all the time.

Also, does anyone know of a good installer in the SF Bay Area that does stealth installs of detectors? I'd love a hidden system, maybe the mirror/display setup as well as hidden detector and sensors. I've seen some very trick installs, but none were locally done.

Anyone?

I've been getting hit with "POP" radar lately in the city. It says POP on the display where it usually says K or Ka. Anyone know what this is?

'POP' is short-pulse radar, made by a company called MPH, that only transmits in short bursts. Many detectors, particularly older ones, can't detect these pulses, or reject them as simply radio 'noise'.

POPs are usually the small speed displays that show how fast you traveling as you drive by. They're the short pulse radar to read your speed.

Red Light cameras and other speed cameras also use it

I have the Escort phone app and it actually alerted me to a radar trap this morning on the freeway. I wasn't speeding, but it was nice to know that the app works without any other radar unit in the car. It also has alerted me to several red light camera installs. For the $4.99 monthly charge, it has likely saved me hundreds in a very short time span. The only downside is that it can be hard on the phone battery, so I simply plug it in the car charger and that's the end of that problem.

These alerts were going on and off as I came into downtown Seattle on the interstate. I suppose they could have been red-light cameras from the surface streets.
