Default iPod connection issue

I just purchased a 2014 XKR to replace my '07 XK. The 2014 version has the center module for USB and iPod connections. I have a newer iPod so I'm using an adapter for the 30-pin to the lightning-style connection for my iPod. However, it still doesn't recognize my iPod. The Owner's manual lists the iPods that are recognized and, of course, they are earlier models than mine. So, do I need a software update to make it work? I tried using the USB port as well, but no success there, either. Thanks

Is it maybe a non-Apple adapter?

If it's genuine Apple I suppose ask Apple why there newer device is not compatible.

If you have a newer iPod, you may not need the adapter. Try connecting to the 30 pin cable without the adapter and see if that works. See if your iPod will charge. The adapter is for older iPods that don’t charge without the adapter/power converter. Hope this helps you.

His iPod has a lightning port, not a 30 pin. He's using a "lightning to 30 pin" adapter so he cannot connect straight to a 30 pin cable.

The newer iPods do not have a digital to analog converter. You have to use a genuine Apple lightning to 30 pin adapter. It has the converter inside the adapter.

Buy a Bovee 1000 and use bluetooth.

That’s what I did...works great. My old iPod needed a power adapter to convert 12v to 5v. Never could make it work so I went to Bovee too.

Excuse my ignorance as am not an apple product person but two questions, is the Bovee you've listed the same as this one:

Amazon Amazon

I bought this thinking it plug-n-play but still need a cable to connect that to my car, if so which cable do I get, part numbers/links would be useful?

Also once connected for music streaming does this mean that hands-free for calls is not available? Am not aware that a Bluetooth device could connect to more than one source/device so seems a little pointless...unless of course peeps are using one Bluetooth device for their music and a separate phone for calls?

I know nothing about cRapple stuff either, but I do know that indeed Bluetooth does indeed connect to at least two different devices at once. Maybe more, but I've only tried two. Works fine.

I did guffaw at that, I'll not allow an apple product in my home, all marketing and upward/cross selling but nothing that inspires IM(not so H)O

Apple are American yes??

PS: I've never made more than one connection at the same time, it would be like being unfaithful, which from reading is not a problem a lot of people in Utah have?

Here’s the cable I use

Once connected, in Bluetooth settings on your phone, connect to this device. You use 2 Bluetooth connections. One to the car for taking/making calls, one to the Bovee for streaming. When a call comes in, the audio mutes. If you have an iPhone, you need to have at least one song in iTunes for the Bovee to stream. You can stream music from your phone or Pandora, etc. On the screen, choose audio, iPod and the music on your phone will show, and the steering wheel controls will work.

Marky,

As you know, the English dictionary defines polygamy as having three or more wives, bigamy as having two wives, and monogamy as having one wife.

The Utah dictionary of American English agrees, except that having one wife is defined as monotony!

Thanks Arena...sheesh that looks like over a meter of cable to hide under your armrest!?

I'll look for sommat shorter with those specs, just after a max of 8 inches, which shouldn't be a problem since it'll be black

This looks like the baby?

And there was me thinking that 'innuendo' was an Italian suppository brand until a few years back

Do you know anyone with an older version of iOS on their iPhone. I am having a similar issue on my Aston where only older iOS versions are recognized.

I dont use apple so have some questions.
Why not use the older ipod, as clearly the car was designed around it?
Why not use Apple car play? As the ipod seems to be more of a walkman.

The bovee bluetooth adapter is rubbish in terms of sound quality- it uses a antiquated version of bluetooth that severely truncates the sound quality of current music formats.
Comparable bluetooth adapters now are Bluetooth 5.0 which has none of the limitations of older standards.

There are older iPods and there are older iPods. The 30 pin connector in my ‘09 XK charges the device at 12v. If you have an iPod with the 30 pin slot that charges at 12v, you’re good. My iPod 2nd generation charges at 5v so it works great, but won’t charge. There are adapters out there that convert from 12v to 5v but I couldn’t make it work, hence the Bluetooth adapter. As to sound quality, my ears are 68 so I’m good.😎
