Default Italian Racing Red: universally loved?

On the modern XK/XKR, is the IRR just gorgeous by almost anyone's standards?

Or are there mixed opinions?

I've seen pics that make it seem like something approaching candy-apple, but I've also seen some flat/off pictures.

So few late-model Jags around; I've never seen IRR in person.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

Rich

I like it, I've yet to see a photo that does it justice. Red is a difficult colour to photograph; my other car is red and I wasn't keen on the colour on the dealer's website photos but it's much nicer in the metal. You really need to see it to make up your mind.

Your right!!! I love mine and I receive a lot of compliments on my car and the color.
If your crazy enough to buy a so much turning head car like an XKRS, you have to assume to have it RED!!!

Unforrtunatly, I live at the other end of the continent. If I ever decide to do a LONG road trip to california, I'll let you know (but but hold your breath)...

IRR is one of my favorite colors on the XK. It is a classy color and on the XKR-S it makes it a beast in sheep's clothing. Very nice color on the XKR-S body style. Although, its hard to put a color on the XK that doesn't look good--the body lines are so perfect.

If I could have had my XKR Portfolio Edition in Italian Racing Red it would be my first choice.

It was the IRR on the F-Type that initially got me attracted to the Jaguar brand.

Jagtoes,
That's a beautiful 308 in the proper color for all sports cars Italian. I have my red Italian sports car and a red XKR, best of both worlds. Next up will be a late model 5.0L R coupe in IRR, probably this time next year.

Any shade of red works on a sporty car.

IRR on my XKRS. Love it... Only thing better is ultimate black metallic.

I wanted my XKR in Salsa red if I couldn't get it in black. It would be unusual, for sure!

I am very happy with the IRR on my '13 XKR. It's not gloss "fire engine red" like MB's Mars Red that I've had in the past--it's metallic so you need to be aware of that and look at one in person because the pictures in the brochure are deceiving. It definitely looks different inside the garage vs. outside in the sun where it is awesome.

I clearly am the exception but I think IRR does nothing for the XK. Red seems to favor smaller more tidy packages. The XK is a long GT. As much as I hate maintaining black the darker the color the smaller and more taught it looks. For an extreme example have you ever seen a red Tahoe? Horrible. Now XK is no Tahoe, but it does NOT have sportscar proportions either.

Red and yellow Astons don't look good. Heck yellow doesn't even work on certain sportscars. Great on Gallardo, NSX, 355 but not as nice on Viper, Vette, 911.

Imho an IRR XK needs modding more than other colors to make it measure up to the promise red makes. Otherwise it seems like a mature GT with a slight identity crisis...

IRR is probably my second favorite on the XKR-S...I think it works good there because it has that more aggressive look right from the factory.

But, I also think the proper color of a Jaguar GT is British Racing Green.

Agreed. But the last XK wore BRG much better to me. Maybe because the green house (no pun intended) was smaller and the car seemed a bit smaller I don't know. But BRG doesn't work as well on our 07+ XK.

I would consider one. I was looking for, and bought, a black XKR but my Carnival Red XJR used to turn heads and get great compliments.

I agree that a big sedan or SUV does not look good in red, but the XK is by no means a big car. Also, IRR is not an "in your face" bright red like some sports cars--it's just a little brighter than Claret or Carnelian Red, which are also a nice colors on an XK. I especially like the contrast on my XKR with the blacked out grills, black interior with red stitching, piano black trim to match the center stack, red brake calipers, and red center wheel badges. This car gets a lot of looks.

Radiance Red in an XJ350 was one of my favorites. XK, it's nice, but is more a formal color. Salsa Red looks great on the XK, not so much on an XJ (if ever offered).
