Thanks, Can you recommend a good trim shop? The dealership is quoting 1200 for what you just described.

I guess anywhere in the Houston area works. Are they mobile? I live on the West and work on the NW.

We use a guy for interior but Ive been less than impressed with things other than headliners. Ide call/go by Stafford auto trim on Murphy rd just past 59 south. Ive seen some really good work come out of there.

Default Leather Pulling

Same boat here... 2007 XK - 62k - still under certified coverage - passenger side dashboard near the speaker has pulled away every so slightly. I have bought 6 cars from my Jag/LandRover dealer.

The sales team is always great if I am dealing with them. Service is ALWAYS a hassle. I do not take my car to my dealer for service because it is always such a problem. Talked to the dealer (service) and was told no go on my certified coverage. Jag would not comment when I talked to them (prior to talking to the dealer). Next step is to call Jag again and try to work with my sales rep.

We'll see how far I get although I am not overly hopeful. I may see a brand change in my near future.

Update as of this AM: Talked to Jag and they have opened a case. I should get follow-up in 2 business days.
Update 9/21: Received follow-up call from Jag requesting a picture of the dashboard.

I went to a 'good upholster shop' to see if they could fix mine. The problem is that a reglue is not realistically possible. The old adhesive would have to be completely removed and then reglued. The labor for the removal and reglue would put you back in the regime of buying a new replacement.

about a month or so ago, I went ahead and bought a new leather dashboard. It was under $3200 with parts, labor, and taxes. The guy being quoted $4K is being ripped off. New York labor (where I am) is always higher than I experienced when I lived in Texas. (having just looked at the gents forum handle, he might have the XF and thus the difference could be in the type dashboard...)

I do own an XF and this was the dealership quote. Im looking into alternate means of acquiring a dash.

@Chiapet- When you say you contacted Jaguar are you talking about your local dealership or the corporate office? I sent a message to the dealership manangement 2 days ago. I received an automated acknowledgement but I am yet to receive a response. I am planning on going the same route before I concede to fixing myself.

I have now spoken to both. The dealer indicated that the issue would not be covered. Jag has issued a case and I am sending pictures of the issue in question.

I live in the Washington DC area and spoke to 2 upholstery shops about this problem.

1.Recommends removing the front windshield in it's entirety and do a pull and reglue ($650)
2. The other did an Aston Martin that suffered from the same proablem at $2500 and said I should probably just go through the dealer since it would so expensive.

Thoughts

I wonder if the leather can be stretched without damage? Is it bonded leather for the dash?

Default 2012 XF jag leather dash pulled

This is my first post, but joined this forum due to the fact of my leather dash pulling and shrinking as well, Since my XK Jag is a pre-cert..I had my XK in the shop due to a power top failure. My Leather Dash was perfect when I purchased it 8 months ago, now its a terrible looking mess, the dealer has agreed to pay half for the replacement, but now I don't think I will do this. As my XK was in the shop, I was given a loaner XF and the leather dash is coming apart and pulling from the exact location as my XK. If the newer cars dashes are doing the same thing, I think I will refrain from replacing my leather dash and paying the money, if they continue to have the same issues with new vehicle dashes.

It is my professional (but likely worthless) opinion, as a PhD chemist, the problems are a result of adhesive failure. I don't see how Jag can't be forced by a lawsuit to recall/reimburse consumers for a clearly defective material design choice. Somewhere along the line, a decision was made to employ a particular adhesive to secure the leather stretched over the surface. Under normal use, and without stress like other components of the vehicle, many dashes are failing.

This happened to me on my 07 XKR vert in Houston, I looked at all the options mentioned and the bottom line is it won't work. Leaving the crappy Jag service aside for now I got the dash recovered completely by a shop on FM 529, cost about 1200USD I also got him to mix up some dye for the interior and touch some spots up for me. It takes about half a cow to do the dash and colour matching and good hides are the key (my interior is caramel) the car was in bits to get the dash out and all back in again, took about 3-4 days to do the work,if you want the name and address of the guy that did mine please PM me.

So I just wanted to give you guys an update.. Since the dealer decided not to cover or replace the dash, I followed Chiapet's lead and wrote to jaguar USA. A rep called me back the next day and we were able to work out a deal where they covered the labor and I paid for the dash (i decided to replace rather than repair plus i agreed to this arrangement cus the part was cheaper than the labor). All in all, they worked with my local service guy and i paid approx 950.00 and they covered the remaining 1300.00. My dash is now fixed as of last week. Although i would have liked for this to be covered under warranty i appreciate the goodwill provided by Jaguar USA. Now I just need my other issues resolved.. I love my car but not thrilled about these frequent visits to the dealership over minor issues.

How is the leather compared to what was there? Is it open or coated? Any pictures?

I just finished reading this whole thread and have a couple of questions. So far no sign of pulling or wrinkling on the dash or anywhere in my 09 XKR. My car only has 16000 miles on it and is a So Cal car and is more often then not sitting in the garage under a cover. Maybe that has helped, not a lot of exposure. This sounds like a when and not if, type of problem.

I saw mention, Rey maybe, of a Llumar product and am wondering if anyone has it on their windshield? If so does it seem to help with the heat and would you recommend it?

Secondly what is everybody happy with as far as leather treatment for the ash, especially in hot climates. I hate anything that looks shiny. I spend a week a month in the desert winter or summer. My external temp reading hit 118 a few weeks ago...............almost had to put the top up!

FWIW, my lady friend has an 08 Bentley GTC, 25000 miles, originally a Palm Springs car and it shows no signs of any kind of interior problem. I would also like to keep it that way.

The cost of replacement/reupholstery is one thing, finding a shop that can do it right is another.
