I put the aftermarket carbon fibre hood vents on my car with double sided automotive tape almost all the way around because there aren't any of the clips or the protrusions that receive the clips. One of them flew off in the first block of me driving and I had just made a right turn so I wasn't going more than 25mph. It flew into the air never to be seen again. I looked everywhere along that boulevard but could not find it. My factory ones went right back on within 10 minutes.

Sorry for your loss, that had to be another pucker moment like Andy's.

This is one of the reasons I choose to stick with a Factory Accessory item that I mentioned earlier. Of course this was before Andy had his mishap. So I guess it can happen to any of them, factory or aftermarket. The heat coming from those vents (I guess they actually do work as advertised) is gonna degrade many ways of attachment. I know for sure after all the trouble of getting my trim rings chrome plated (still waiting for a ship date from plater, sorry Andy) that I will be taking extra steps above and beyond the normal factory clips.

One thing I have notice is there only seems to be 2 of the metal retainers per vent from the factory. I am referring to the metal clips I posted above. I am considering finding similar metal retainer clips for the other 3-4 remaining factory clips. Not sure what adhesive could/should be used, again especially with the constant heat from the vent.

IF any one finds a source (or part number) for the original clips please let us know. I have looked and looked thru the Jag catalogs and haven't spotted it yet.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thursday!

Dave

I agree since the car has been out of warranty its been good, (whilst under warranty I think it spent 8 work weeks at the dealer, they never did fix some small stuff).
I'm actually very pro Jag both being British and having worked on the XJR15, XJ220, XJR12 and XJR14 and the test I still own it

Updated Vents
Thanks 10XKR for the replacement. Painted black and highlighted lettering in red.
Not finally fitted, as I'm not happy with the clip so working on something different.
