Default Lock/Unlock chime

Does anyone know if it is possible to program the locking system so it sounds a beep/chirp when enabled or disabled? My '05 XK8 had this but my '07 XK does not. I miss the audible reminder, I find that I must actually look at the lights to make sure it locks.

Don't hold me to this but I believe that the no noise on lock and unlock is regulated to remove noise pollution. I believe that all late model cars are the same and as such there is no adjustment to turn on or off.

With the Key Fob I find you'll need to press the lock button twice in a row for the horn to beep.....don't think you can have it chime when you unlock it though.

I tried the double click as you suggested, the lights just flashed a second time, no audible feed-back.

Has anyone noticed in the owners manual, page 7, they reference pressing the lock button on the remote a second time to "double lock" the car. What does that mean?

That's strange......your horn should beep like this after pressing the lock button twice:

Might want the dealer to check it out.

double locking is not avail in the US. And I believe the sounder can be abled/disabled, but not through the touch screen. Its probobly in IDS to enable chirp. We used to have to FIX Stypes for this all the time. They would quit and we would have to go in and disable, then reenable to get it functioning again.....(computers, all just a bunch of pooey for enriching our lives)

I know what you mean about the audible reminder when locking the car,
I also miss it, comes from growing up in NYC you get a little paranoid about making sure your car is really locked.
I don't know if the 07 has this feature, but what I have done is go into the settings and activate the mirror fold feature upon locking. This way when you lock and start to walk away you know its locked if the mirrors are folded.

That's a great alternative to the audible, unfortunately my '07 does not have this feature. I also am originally from NYC, nice to know I'm not the only one with this paranoia.

Another member on this forum has an '08, and he can get the beep with a double push of the lock button on the remote. My dealer insists this can't be done on the '07. Still looking for alternative.

I have an 07 and mine will sound the horn once if I double push the lock on the remote.

Was your '07 built for sale in the US? My dealer says some features vary by market.

The double lock feature causes the doors to lock both inside and outside... That is once you ave double locked the car you cannot open the door from the inside either. If someone breaks a window to gain access to the car, if you have double locked the doors they will be unable to open the doors even from the inside. Kevin.

Default Problem solved!

After repeatedly complaining to dealer about this issue the tech discovered that the warning audio system used to created the sound via a speaker ( it does not use the horn) was not operating. This system also is used to produce a warning if you try to lock the car with a door open, which does not work either. Taking car in next week to have audio warning system repaired.

UPDATE!
The sounder was replaced and now I get the chirp when I double click the lock button. It also chirps if you double click the black button on the door handle. Dealer says this feature can be enable/disabled via an IDS update. He charges a 1 hour labor fee to make IDS changes. At last I am happy.

The dealership can do it possibly by either reconfiguring the CJB(Central Junction Box) or disable and enabling it through the car configuration file with IDS/SDD

What a PITA! Good for you for keeping after the dealer to investigate/resolve the problem. (Squeaky wheel and all that.)
