Default Looking for heavy duty cover for my XKR!

We are closing on our first home soon, and unfortunately the house does not have a garage (yet), so I will be parking my XKR outdoors. So I want to get a car cover!

It does rain here and it does get snowy. Can be windy at times, too. So I want a pretty heavy duty car cover that fits very well and won't blow off in if properly secured.

I know car covers are not ideal for the paint because dust can get trapped under there and all the vibration from the wind can mar the paint a little bit. However, I think it is important for the longevity of the car (until I build a garage) to protect it from UV rays and the extreme heat of sunlight!

I would like to spend under $300 if possible.

Do you have any recommendations?

Alan:

My cars are always covered and kept indoors (garaged) and have done allot of research on car covers.

You don't have to spend even close to $300.

Here's a 7 layer cover/Waterproof:

There are all kinds of these on eBay from 2 layer to 8 layer.

Under $100 is very doable.

Richard, thanks for the feedback! The only concern I have is that this one is not custom fit to an XK. In your experience, does it matter? The only reason it would matter to me is with the wind situation.

The compatibility I looked at was for a 2010 XKR. It may not be a custom fit, but it will fit comfortably over your car.

I don't suggest a tight fit anyway.

Mine also stays outside for now. Don't even bother with the cheepies. I just went through that learning curve. Custom made is a must. If you are covering it indoors cheepies are fine, but not in the wind. This is the one I ended up buying. $232.77 with shipping. It is not the best one out there, but it looks like it will last a while. Fit is great (07 xkr conv.) Looks like it will be gentle on the paint, but I've just had it for about a month so I can't say for certain.

Alan:

Just keep in mind, then when parking your car outside with a car cover, they are easy to steal. If you get an expensive cover, don't be disappointed if someone steals it, custom fit or not.

Some car covers can be somewhat locked down by using a cable under the car from one side to the other, but these can be cut very easily with cable cutters...or the cable can be easily cut out of the cover.

Spend what you think is best. Shop and compare...eBay has so many to choose from.

I keep mine indoors but only drive it 2-3 times a week so it gets covered in cotton dust, as my parking space is near the adjoining hotels laundry room door.

Mine stay outside during the summer. I've order last year a car cover (custom fit) from Carcoverdirect. They call it wheathersheid. I'm VERY satisfied with. I think it's important to have a good fit to make sure it won't be lift by the wind. Plus, good fit will reduce the mouvemnet on the paint. They do about avery model, even for the XKRS!!!

Choose the best material for your environment

They have a 10 % discount sometime.

Good luck

Thanks. Do you have a pic of the cover? I'm wondering how good the fit is!

It would be nice if the car could still (somehow) manage to look like a Jag with the cover on it.

I had a CoverCraft for my 911 before we expanded to garage. It is custom fit with mirror pockets plus can be locked with cable under the car. Never came off in weather.

I don't care about price much. Meaning that no rapper-level ermine covers are in my future, but I'm happy to pay good $ for a true quality cover. I have to park a black car under the variable Northern California climate, and I always feel the damage I'm doing to the paint as I put this cover on and off :
WeatherShield HD Car Covers - Covercraft Car Covers

Otherwise it's been great cover:. Neat, easy to keep clean, does a very good job protecting from the elements. A quality cover, but I'm not sure if it's the most gentle on your paint. That's why I'm interested in something perhaps a bit more upmarket. Does anyone know if a car cover maker who is , you know, the JAGUAR of car Covers? That's what I need re quality, Lol... I kill myself...

Anyone?

Finally got the cover installed today after washing the car. It seems to fit pretty well! It is pretty easy to put on but feels lighter than I thought it might. It has some nice seams where the rear spoiler goes and along other body lines on the car.

I snapped some pics. Unfortunately the photo angles are really tight because my driveway is wedged in between my house and my neighbor's driveway. The fit is really much better than the photos show!

I wish I could get some sort of Jaguar logo on the front!!!
