Default Loose Tweeters - Front Door Tweeter Clips?

I noticed that my front door tweeter was loose and rattling. When I took a closer look and took off the tweeter, I saw that one of the clips that fits in a whole in the door was missing. A pic of the clip is below. Does anyone know where to get a replacement clip? I imagine that the original clip fell into the door panel. I also found that the plastic that fits into the clips is broken. I am going to try to epoxy a piece of plastic as a replacement. The tweeter was being held on only by the tweeter wire.

Has anyone figured out a better solution to hold the tweeters in securely?

Thanks,

Ken

im working on the same problem at the moment. I work in automotive assembly and that type of clip is very common. Search amazon and eBay.

I also will will be using an epoxy( Loctite 2 part plastic epoxy) to form a tab.

Do you know what the clip is called? I'm not sure how to search for it.

When I removed the tweeter as part of the dismantling to replace my damaged door handle, someone had "been there before" because one of the clips was missing and the front plastic tab (arrowed in red) broken.

I was going to replace the plastic housing until I found out it is not available separately and the assembly is 210 UKP plus tax.

I refitted it and it is perfectly secure with only the rear clip and the front plastic clip (arrowed in green). I think any 2 of the 3 fixings should be sufficient to prevent any looseness or rattling.

Nice one Graham! Photos always help. On looking for my annoying door rattle and exploring how to take the passenger door card off I found I have exactly the same broken clip problem - not the actual cause of the rattle though. I guess somebody was there before me and was a tad heavy handed. - I'm going to attempt a door card removal at some point (when feeling brave) to find out where the rattle is coming from.

My local NAPA has a auto body section with all these clips (hundred or so different retaining parts) displayed on a board. We use to have a store dedicated to auto paints, tools-n-such that would have stocked them as well.
If you don't have that locally, you might pay a friendly visit to a auto body shop and ask if they can help. Might just hand you one at no cost.

Word of warning when repairing this part. The bezel is the MOST brittle interior plastic component I’ve worked with restoring cars over 40 years. 2nd place is the interior door window switch surrounds.

OEM replacement part is $300 US - just bezel - no tweeter. Would be great if someone would scan and 3D print the part. Would gladly pay $100 for the part.

I removed my door panel and reinstalled it because the top was not installed properly by the dealer when the previous owner had the window actuator replaced. When reinstalling the panel install in at about a 30% angle and fit the top in close to the window first then move in down tight and fit the fasteners in and finally reinstall the removed screws (diagram below). get If you do't fit the top in first you'll never get in properly installed close to the window.

Yes, the bezel that holds the speaker to the tweeter trim piece. The little plastic tables that the tweeter snap into just fell apart. Put them back together with several rounds of epoxy, trying to to put too much on otherwise the parts won't fit together. Very challenging!

Thanks,

Ken

Thank you. I had an occasional rattle on driver door, left it alone fearing what you described.
You confirmed my suspicion, the occasional rattle is less painful than the alternative.
If it gets bad enough to be a bother, I will wait for hot weather to take door apart where chances of snapping brittle plastic will be lower.

What's sober?

Thanks guys, I agree - probably a bad idea to take things apart in the winter and making it worse by breaking something. I'll live with rattle for a bit longer and attempt it in the summer.

As already stated in the comments, the tweeter plastic housing is very fragile to say the least. Mine was loose and while trying to fix it, the tweeter itself fell apart. Took it to an upscale auto electronic shop and had all the speaker replaced/upgraded. When they tried to put the tweeter back into the plastic housing, it cracked into 8 pieces. They found a replacement from Galaxy Jaguar in California. Looks and sounds perfect....but it was a lesson to remember when dealing with plastic parts.

I am still on the hunt for an upgrade to my Bluetooth system. Since was built under the Ford ownership, was told the electronics in Lincolns and Fords from same year range are the same.

Not for the phones I'm afraid.

Read this and prolly should start a new thread if you want to add comments as to what you're experiencing. Focus on post #35 and double check but I think post #40 is no longer in play:
