Default Low battery key fob

The low battery key fob message appeared on my dash center today above my steering wheel. If I get the battery replaced on both my key fobs, will the message automatically disappear or do I need to reset something? If it needs to be reset what is the method or is it dealer reset only? Thanks all.

The warning SHOULD go away with the new batteries installed. Mine usually does, but sometimes with brand new and full batteries the warning comes back anyway.

Replacing the Smartkey battery is a quick and easy DIY fix, with no programming. Be sure to use a fresh brand-name CR2032 battery and insert it correctly. If it doesn't work, you either put the battery in upside down or it's not making good contact with the prongs. Buy a pair and keep one on your glove box as a spare.

It happened to me about two weeks ago, and I couldn't start my car without inserting into the slot in the console for a few days before the warning came on. I put in a new battery, and everything returned to normal. and the warning disappeared as well.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF MY FORUM FRIENDS.

I replaced both batteries in each fob. Low battery message is now off. Thanks all. I'm a little annoyed that Jaguar actually charged me this time to change the batteries. I made it known to my service writer who wasn't available when I arrived there but when I saw him he told me he would not have charged me The shop foreman told me he had to bill me. What petty nonsense for a luxury brand!

So what's the average life span of a 2032 in this application? I've already swapped mine out once since getting the car on the road in the spring.

I think I changed mine twice in the 5 years that I had my '07 and the car was used most days.

Both my fobs had battery replacements less than 3 years ago with almost no car usage.

It's a crapshoot, and longevity depends depends on the battery manufacturer, expiration date, storage conditions (temperature), frequency of use, and whether it's real or a Chinese knockoff. I've bought "El Cheapo" brand name (probably fake) CR2032 batteries that turned out to be duds. Now I buy my CR2032 batteries on Amazon for a fraction of the cost locally. Lots of choices there; read the reviews and decide for yourself.

Recommending a CR2032 battery brand is like recommending a tire brand.

I wouldn't knock the brand; I'd knock the shop foreman and tell the dealer. That shop foreman cost his employer, the dealer, far more in the loss of goodwill value than they made billing you to change that key fob battery. He needs better training in customer relations.

Write a note to the General Manager of that dealer and courteously explain that if you were running his business, you would want to know what just happened and why it was bad for business. Explain what happened and how disappointed you were in the way you were treated over a job that should take less than 5 minutes. Instead of promoting customer satisfaction and loyalty, they caused you to consider taking your business elsewhere.

If the GM is an astute business person, he or she will thank you for bringing this to their attention and will compensate you for going to the effort to improve their operations.

Turn a lemon into lemonade.
