Default Lowering soft top issue, solved for now, but...

I have taken the 2007 XKR on vacation to Italy, and it has behaved nicely. Of course the minute trunk is packed full, but I had the curtain pulled back as it should be, ready for good weather. But when it got hot enough, it wouldn't lower. I have the Jagwrangler unit, but I'm sure that's not the problem.

When I got time, I took out most things in the trunk, and the soft top lowered nicely.

It seems that curtain is very sensitive? Can someone explain how it actually works, how does it register it's set correctly? Electrical? Magnetic? Or? And the perhaps most important question, is there a way to work around it? If it failed, could I somehow empty my trunk, lower the top, fill back in the trunk?

I refuse to drive around Italy top up all the time!

On the leftest-rear-bottom of the slider where it hinges there is a little clip on the curtain that connects magnetically (I think?) a switch in the slider. If the slider part isn't close enough to the sensor in that area it will not activate. There is an entire thread on this whole subject, but the search in this forum isn't outstanding. It's best to use the Googz to search, and that usually points back into here anyway.

Thanks. "leftest rear", on the slider when not rolled out, or when rolled out (backwards) to where it attaches and the last 4-5"s are vertical?

Yeah, specifically on that corner. That has to be completely seated to lower the roof.

Yes, like that. You can see the metal clip on that corner area.

OK, think I got that covered.
And now, for something completely different, for touring the Alps. Does anybody in here speak Italian and would like to spend an hour fact finding on google for me? It's about this road:

Forcella Lavardet is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.547m (5,075ft) above the sea level, located in the province of Belluno, in the Italian region of Veneto. The climb features 14 sharp hairpin turns that seem to lie on one another, gradually climbing up to the top of the pass.

Yes, but it is closed even though work has been done, a lot. What's the plan, what's the timing? Probably only available in Italian
