Luggage cover fitting - pulling my hair out!
So, the luggage cover appears to easily pop free of the push in connectors but so far I have not been able to get them back in the holes. Am I missing something?
If the damn thing can fall out on its own why can't I get it to go back. I've tried talking nicely to it, swearing at it and even applying a few love taps with a nylon faced hammer all to no avail. It resolutely refuses to return to it's proper place. All I managed to achieve was for the other side to pop out and then the two latching fixings followed suit.
Driving me crazy!

I think you're referring to the parcel shelf? If so this search brings up many results:

The tricks
1. release the clamps but ensure they are screwed in snug.
2. place the forward pins in place in the hatch, first.
3. then place the rear of the shelf in place. hold snugly.
4. then engage the clamps.
Some ruin the clamps or damage the recess for the clamps by pulling the shelf, without releasing the clamps.

Remember that the clamps are adjustable, widening or narrowing the effective diameter of the rubber bush. Get the diameter right and the cover holds fine for years. Too tight and the lever doesn't want to close, too loose and the cover falls out.

Like Bakelite, I had this problem and ended up shelling out for the plastic replacement clips. I only bought two but most packs on eBay seem to be four - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234725551456
Easy to fit, just a bit expensive for what they are. Having said that, no issue with a falling parcel shelf - which lets face it, doesn't look good when you open the boot of your Jaguar supercar

While we're on the subject - is there a source for a new boot luggage cover? Mine suffers from the same problem with the four posts. The expandable posts would be a solution, but the rest of it is so worn and in such bad shape that I'd like to replace it. I've even removed it from the car as I rarely have anything in the boot anyway.

They gave me quite some grief because I used to take the shelf out pretty often, to accommodate my dog.
As far as I can remember, you adjust the clamps width with a screw that's accessible from the top of the bushes (top as in top of the shelf).

Though it would have been easier to have another pair of hands, and maybe be a bit taller, this sequence worked for me. I could get the two forward pegs inserted and clamped (even though they were not fully home) and this seemed to make the rear pegs line up better and I could push them in most of the way and set them with a couple of light taps with a nylon faced hammer. This had them seated well enough to then release and push the forward pegs fully home before re clamping them.
Now let's see how long before one decided to fall out again

Cheers!

Thank you very much. I do want a new one, and I knew it would be spendy, but that's the price you pay for things like this.
It's got me thinking, however, that part of the problem with my old shelf was not with the posts on the shelf, but rather with the holes the posts go in to. The shelf posts are solid so it must be the holes the lose their shape and don't hold the posts tightly. Is that correct? If so, even a new shelf would not stay in place. I think that's why the aftermarket posts are expandable.
Not sure what to do. I don't mind spending nearly $600 for a new shelf (well, I do mind, but what choice do I have for a new shelf) but I'd hate for a new shelf to fall out like the old one.
Apologies for the rambling thoughts.
