Default Major coolant leak behind engine?

My XKR 4.2 was overheating and after adding coolant I noticed a major coolant leak from the back of the engine... what would this be? And what does anyone have a step by step guide to fixing this? Would this be the water pump location under the manifold?

Under the car

And for reference in this area below

Possible Throttle Body Coolant Line got ruptured or disconnected. Take all that intake crap off the top and follow the hoses.
It could also be the coolant lines under the blower, which is MUCH more involved.

How many miles on the car? I know nothing of your car but I can tell you that all my hoses (manufacturing date September '06) were replaced at 75,000 km. Though they aren't leaking, it is time to do them again this fall. I do change the coolant every 2 years.
While the supercharger is off, it will be thoroughly cleaned, fluids replaced, etc at the same time.

Worst case scenario, your car is 18 years old... you are significantly overdue for this maintenance requirement.

I believe you are correct in being overdueoverit has just hit 250,000kms! I'm already getting a lot of suspension bushings replaced and sway bar links.. haven't touched the engine but I'm assuming there's a lot that should be done I just have no clue as i bought it a month ago..and this is the first thing that has happened 🤯 could you do a guide if you do your maintenance on your hoses unless you have a link to how to remove the supercharger etc to gain access. I'd like to work on this car myself as much as possible just don't have the knowledge and havent seen much in terms of yourube videos.

What you need is the workshop manual.
Graham has organized sticky threads on the top of this very forum. Get yourself the workshop manual.

I haven’t seen the video posted but you need to be careful about referencing videos…. Any hack can create one.

Also, there are a number of good threads here. See Ranchero’ thread on “fix this green junk”

250,000…. Also see the maintenance schedule sticky.

When one of my valley hoses ruptured it certainly appeared to be at the back of the engine. There is a gap at the back which is where the hoses route from the throttle body / EGR valve, forward to the coolant manifold above the supercharger snout. If you remove the intake T-piece as Cee Jay suggested, you should be able to position a small mirror to allow you to see this gap (follow the hoses from the throttle body which route under the back of the supercharger to locate the gap) - and if you can apply some light pressure to the expansion bottle you may even see the water flow out of there.

Mine can be seen below. The upper of the two hoses is burst just before it disappears off to the right, and that's where the gap is that you should be able to locate with a mirror. I did the work myself, with the help of the manuals previously linked on here, plus some other threads on this fine forum. Notably this one which helped a lot when I couldn't release the EGR valve due to rusted bolts. It's a lot of work but it's totally doable with simple tools and patience. The only things of note I would say, both the EGR solenoid and the coolant manifold are held on with torx bolts and both caused me trouble. You can remove the throttle body elbow with the EGR still attached, if you manipulate it out the front after the supercharger has been removed. One of the coolant manifold torx bolts rounded off and I nearly threw in the towel and farmed it out, but a 12 point spline bit was eventually hammered in and I got it freed off. In both cases I replaced the torx bolts with stainless hex bolts so I hopefully won't face issues removing either in the future.

Curious if silicone hoses would be a better solution in the valley. Or any of the hoses for that matter.

I installed silicone hoses in the valley after mine burst. £80 delivered from Swallows. Also installed a silicone hose on the manifold, the shortest one since it was a bit crusty.

When replacing any hose or coolant part on an older XK that has not been serviced for years.. it’s best to do every single coolant pipe/hose while you have things apart or you will be back on a regular basis tearing things apart to them individually. Everything is plastic and crap so you might as well do it once….. or every 5-6 years when they get brittle again.
