Default Manual climate controls: am I being stupid?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I turn on my AC by using the big "AUTO" half-circle button. But when I want to turn off the AC, another press of that button does nothing. I end up entering the "climate" menu, selecting the air path, and pushing the "AC" virtual button to turn it off.

It's not supposed to be that difficult, right?

You are right. It is that difficult. The manual mentions that they do not recommend keeping the a/c off for long periods of time.

That's messed up. Ahh, well.

I will take some small comfort in not missing something obvious...

I found if I rotate the big knob CC it turns off the auto control and sets the fan speed to the lowest .

Whatever that center console thing is, its not the reason we bought the Jag. Personally for a "2006 designed" car im glad we have a few things - heated/cooled seats, MP3 player option, CD player built in (6 discer too!), standard satellite navigation with a suckulent british woman's voice (ok its not that great) with touch screen. IT LOOKS MODERN TO YOUR FRIENDS... how its function is a different story. I say hell with it.. just go with it... its a V8... its the best!!!!!!

That does not disable the A/C compressor in my 2008 even though the "Auto" light goes out. It is simply indicating that the driver has overridden the climate control so that it will be unable to properly control the temperature.

I disable the A/C as I pull into my community so that the fan can disperse any condensate in the A/C system before I shut off the motor. It is a bit of a PITA do have to do it through the NAV screen, but that is how the machine operates, so that's what I must do.

in my car the display does not even show AC in the climate menu.. I do have "economy" mode which seems to disable the AC.

as a followup question.. I heard that it would be bad for the AC when driving open in hot temperatures.. as the AC will continue to operate at 100%.. I've driven long drives in 47+ with the roof closed, and that heated up the dash so far that de display and radio went in to thermal shutdown mode.. but never had the AC give up on me..

is it bad to have the AC run at 100% full time?

That is how I do it .... very cumbersome .... we have few days, not even weeks here where it is not raining or too cold or or just blazing hot where you can drive with the windows down. I don't like the AC fighting open windows ... so I have to use the worst touch screen menu and some 3 clicks to disable it. You cannot do this without looking at the screen ... worst ergonomics EVER.
