Massive oil leak on engine start, mostly stops when not running
Oh no. I drove my 2007 XKR (~136000 miles) five days ago (which I bought in early April and indicated no signs of oil leakage, and I have driven it at least six times since I bought it) and it was pointed out to me that there was a small amount of oil left in the garage (picture attached is of that oil). I was concerned about this, and I didn't drive the car between then and now, but I did check the oil. There was no noticeable change in the dipstick and *almost* no extra oil was on the ground.
I start it up today, and I smell more oil than normal (car is an oil burner). I check under the car, only to discover a massive pool of oil dripping from seemingly numerous locations. I quickly shut it off and the leak seemed to subside almost completely, with only residual oil coming out.
So essentially, there is a huge amount of oil that pours out of the car, on a problem that presented itself barely noticeably on Friday, and developed without the car having been driven in the intervening days, and has now become a huge one. I have no idea how to attack this. Any thoughts to what could be causing this?
If you still have the front undertray (belly pan) installed, that moves all drips and leaks somewhere other than it actually is. That tray has padding which can absorb a lot of fluid. Where it lands on the ground has little to do with where the leak comes from.
If you have a gusher, the leak is probably on a pressurized portion of the oiling system, so like the filter or maybe the oil cooler (I don't know where that is on a 4.2).
First thing I'd do is check for that belly pan and remove it, then probably hose off the entire underside best I could with hot water.
You need to get underneath, remove the under engine shield, and look around. Lots of possibilities for leakage source, but you need to look to narrow it down.

Sorry that I didn’t update the thread, life-altering events were underway for me basically right after this nasty problem started.
I opted to take it into a shop since I haven’t the time to work on it myself right now, and I was able to drive it there without any oil leakage whatsoever. It still smelled of oil the whole way (a short 2 minute drive). How bizarre! I will update when I get a diagnosis.
Not sure how relevant but happened when I purchased my x100 and drove from the showroom in Houston to LA. The air filter housing completely filled with oil! I think I recall was a blocked pcv and everything was fine after it was replaced.
I just heard back from the shop, and the news is grim.
I was quoted $8000 to replace the timing chain gasket and cover, the oil pan and gasket, both valve covers and their gaskets, the crankshaft seal, and rebuild essentially the entire cooling system.
There doesn't seem to be wrong with either the supercharger or the cooling system, (coolant was flushed 5000 miles ago) but the mechanic stated to me that the hoses that needed to come off on these components in order to access the gaskets would break during the repair and would need to be replaced. Unfortunately, I just can't afford that repair right now.
No visible oil leak occurred on the short drive back, and I didn't really smell any oil. However, the check engine light came on, but the car didn't go into limp mode. When other shops open back up on Monday, I will try to get second and third opinions, especially one from the local specialist shop. If the news is similar from those places, I will probably try to part it out or offload it to a junker since I can't in good conscience pass it on.
