Meaning of label found on transmission housing at the back of the engine
Hello all,
I found a label/sticker on the transmission housing right at the back of the engine, picture below taken from above the engine compartment; the second picture is an enlargment of the pic to show just the label.
Does anybody know what is the meaning of the digits/letters ?
1) 6W83 7000 AC
2) ****V8*3.5*NA
3) 6W837000AC4452688
Well no. 2 is easy : my XK is a convertible with the 3.5L V8 NA engine , 1 of only 645 ever made by Jaguar !
Anybody can decipher no. 1 and no. 3 ?
Thanks in advance !
Roberto

I think #3 actually starts with a ‘6’, not an ‘S’, so it matches #1, just with more info. Think #1 (and #3) are the part number.
6W83 7000 AC being the transmission Part Number and 4452688 being the individual unit number.
As all parts are delivered to the line "just in time", the QR code likely to be for rapid confirmation and matching with the destination vehicle on the production line.
I knew Jaguar had build a 630 Coupe and 644 Convertible 3.5 litre X150's for development and evaluation between 1995 and 1998 but didn't know they had been sold to customers.
the production numbers are correct but not the production dates you refer to, here is a pic with the production runs of both the X100 XK8/XKR and and the X10 XK/XKR, I'm sure you have seen it before; the XK 3.5L was produced between 2005 and 2008.
Second picture is of an email I got from the JLR Customer Care regarding the allocation of the XK 3.5L in the various countries in Europe, it is in Italian but the allocation scheme is self-explanatory.
I was surprised to see a few allocated also to the UK.
NOTE : the last XK line reading "XKR 3.5L Convertible" has a typo and should of course be : XK 3.5L Convertible !

Easy mistake as the date columns change from X100 to X150: 1995 - 1998 actually becomes 2005-2008. The 2005 figures probably don't count as customer sales and were most likely to be development cars. The coupes were released in summer 2007 and the convertibles some time in 2008, I believe.
YES - the table from Nigel Thorley's excellent you and your Jaguar XK/XKR.
The table shows production of the 3.5 litre variants only in 1995, 1997 and 1998:
I think the Press in the UK were loaned 3.5 litre vehicles for test but I don't recall anyone from the UK on the forum owning one. I'm surprised to see so many went to mainland Europe and especially to Germany.
Those dates don't apply to the X150. There is another dark grey date line that does.
Initially Germany was allocated 200 coupes and then 100 cabrios. They sold quite a lot more in the end. The magazine reviews are from 2007 and 2008 respectively and many are still online.
Jaguar wanted a model for Europe to pitch at the smaller BMW 6 Series and the more basic Merc SL. Many mainland European countries did have road taxes based on engine size and insurance partly based on power rating, so there was a small monitary advantage by downsizing. Probably not a massive concern on an 80k+ € car, but the main point was to enable a lower entry point and sell more units without major investment. The old Duratec V6 or even a diesel would have been the better choice for the Continent but that would have meant much more investment up front, and I expect that just wasn't available.
Back to the part number - that is a Ford-style numer for a ZF transmission part.
