Moving but not going far.
I just traded my 2008 XKR Coupe for a 2015 F Type R Coupe. I only have 100 miles on it but some quick impressions are:
Power- unbelievable. So much more than the 4.2. Don't even have to get on it to get the same results.
Mileage- seems to be better, on a 20 mile stop and go round trip to the beach I averaged 20 mpg where as I only got about 17 mpg in the 4.2 XKR
Handling- so much better
Suspension- ride is a lot stiffer, especially in Dynamic Mode. Hopefully it will loosen up a bit with some more use.
Room- had to rearrange things but got everything to fit. Had to put a couple of things in the trunk. Do miss the back seat.
Styling- like both of them. R definitely looks more like a sports car.
Exhaust- no contest

It's been great here on the XK/XKR section. I have really enjoyed the help, information, and cordiality of everyone here. I'll keep checking in.
Thanks All,
Jack

Congrats!
I love the F-Type, but would have a few reservations leaving an XK for one.
(I guess mostly cause I'm old?)
I've heard ride comfort suffers, and that is important to me. Maybe if smaller rims and taller sidewalls were available some of the harshness could be dampened... Just don't know if anything smaller would fit over the calipers.
The second reservation is one that many will feel is odd, but I truly do not like the sound of the exhaust. It pops, it burbles, it barks, it annoys... I even find the 5.0 XK series a disappointment compared to the refined growl of the 4.2.
I admit I'm not in the norm, but I love my Jag for her silent and comfortable poise as she rolls down the freeway, as well as her deep noted growl when the go pedal gets pressed to the floor.
Nuff said... except to repeat the congrats... Enjoy!

Clever Name
It certainly is a bit stiffer. But as I recall when I first got my 2008 XKR it seemed extremely stiff. After a few thousand miles it felt better. As I remember I actually posted at about 20,000 miles how I could make it stiffer like when it was new.
Unless you enable the active exhaust it is as quiet as my stock 4.2 XKR. I also was concerned about that. I am also a bit old.

A weekend is the best way to do it if you can. You should be able to make a good decision with that amount of seat time. I was only able to test drive one for about an hour and I had mixed emotions, but went with it and after a week I am really glad I did.
Since it is the V6S, if it is in your budget I would then test drive a V8R. I bought a 2007 XK thinking I didn't need the extra power and a year later test drove a 2008 XKR and had to have it. If I had driven the XKR originally, I would have bought it originally and saved a lot of money.
