Nav Disc??
In my opinion, the best alternative is to use Waze because it's a free app and provides real-time traffic information and rerouting.

I've never actually USED navigation other than to play for a minute. If I have to go somewhere, I may check traffic on Google Maps to figure out which route to take, and prior to the journey I also may use Google to verify the correct location and general area.

I use Google maps in my XKR and the built in system in my 2018 XJR which gives current traffic conditions if you buy the Jaguar service. Which is better? If you don't care about the voice, I think Google maps is always fractionally more current. If you like the English accent, which I do, then Jaguar is better.
This is a good thread. I was looking at how to update my new to me ‘15 XKR. So, I’m just going to use Waze, I bought one of those phone mounts that attaches in the CD sot, it works well, and gives me Waze with audio to the infotainment system.
I took Cambo's suggestion and bought the "Volvo" disks with 2016 maps. Got it at a pretty good price.
Agree that it is faster.
One thing of note. I only wanted the "B" disk for the Eastern US, so just jumped right in with that disk. Got "loading map data" for a really long time, so went back and inserted disk A. Got the software message, when that finished I reinserted the B Disk and everything is fine. So apparently Volvo only put the software update on Disk A. Warning to all.
NOW. I have my B disk installed so if anyone is interested in the A disk, PM me and we can work out price and delivery.

I may be interested in the A disk if it’s still available. I need Canada and the Western US including Arizona. I have a 2008 XKR.
A couple of weeks ago I bought the first (!!) update for my 2007 4.2 from NAVIMAPSTORE, which I think is a UK based company. Cost £29.99. Loaded immediately and presented in voice and display exactly as before. Did a 200 mile round trip recently and all worked perfectly. Still early days I suppose but looking good so far.
Any idea where I could get one for South Africa or what the part number would be?
What does the Volvo firmware update first disc do to the Jag? Will I get a Volvo badge on the screen?

Have a look for a newer Volvo disc, to suit these models:
Attachment 204712
In Australia the newest disc for the XK (and XF, and the LR2, LR3 and Range Rover Sport up to 2009MY) is from 2013, but those Volvo models use the same system, and the discs are 100% compatible.
I've got a 2017 Volvo version in my XKR, works perfectly.

Note that the map version date is one year behind the market release, V 05.16.02 is 2016, but it's sold as a 2017 update.

My 2023 purchase of a UK one from latestsatnav.co.uk is still going strong. It operates exactly as the Jag original did and without any logos. Might be worth looking to see if they do other countries. They certainly do many other makes and models.
