So...if I read what racerXK says and the (up)dates of those Volvo discs there is no way you can refresh your Satnav beyond 2014?

 

Uh, no.

Software update is not the same as map update.

I have 2017 maps in mine, the software in the nav unit operating system is from 2014 or thereabouts, that was updated with the 2017 Volvo map disc.

Yep thanks Stuart. I was looking at a different disc that covered the S80 from 2012 -14 and missed that piece that it was the HDD type. Not compatible. I just misread the listing.

Not to throw cold water on it but per Volvo,
"Note!
The map data is from model year 2017 (2016 week 48). No new updates are planned."

So yes you can update your maps and for most, as Cambo says, "Better to pay $175 for the latest 2016/2017 version from Volvo, than $200 for the Jaguar one that's three or four years out of date!."

 

For me, it was a no-brainer since I've never updated my maps until now. The update is a big improvement over the original that was from 2008, or maybe earlier. Money well spent.

Surprised no one has picked up the slack for Jaguar system with as many cars on the road. Maybe Jag Wrangler, WhiteXKR, can help?

 

I'm using google maps but if someone out east is willing to send me disc 1 and the western disc (I'm in Mn), I can see if I can create newer maps. I will return them once I create a disk IMG. Alternatively, if someone has DISK 1 and the WEST already in IMG, I can attempt.
1) - I know it's been tried before with no success on the Jaguar maps.
2) - I don't want to violate any laws and my assumption is that since Jaguar and Volvo are no longer making them, I'm not.
3) - Goal will be to incorporate and burn 2018 maps.

So if it is in the update disk from Volvo that causes the loss of the British gal, do you think one could add the maps WITHOUT the update and retain the British gal?

I'm really only guessing that's where the languages are stored. Have to look at the detail to determine more and lord help me, I'm just not that bright so don't pin your hopes on me. No takers (or lenders) yet anyway but just to be clear, if you lend them to me, they will be returned unharmed.

And again, I use google maps so I'm set for me personally but if I am successful,
I night go back to OEM. Also, if successful, I would give away the updates, not sell them or sell them at cost which I can't imagine would be more than $5 or so.

 

Somewhere lost in translation... are you looking for a Volvo set or a Jag set of disks? If Volvo, I can send you mine to play with. They're unopened, as I'm not about to lose the British babe, just to have updated maps.

So this disc will update the software AND the maps? Sorry, just so much info in this thread! When the software updates, does it change the graphics at all? I hope?

 

I went from the original Jaguar disks of 2009 and updated it to the 2013-2014 disks, those updated my software. Using the 2016(? whatever above says) Volvo disks, just the maps were updated..... which took away the British Chick. That seems to be the only change. I didn't notice any differences in the GUI at all.

 

In order to retain the British voice, will using the 2nd disk (maps) work WITHOUT performing the update (1st disc)? I really want to keep that voice. But would like new maps....a lot of roads have been built around here in the last 7 years.

 

The map difference I think is only 3 years. Not insignificant, especially in boom areas, but I may just buy the Jag Maps after I confirm my map dates.

 

I only need Europe Disk D.
I don't know if in the original Volvo release the disk D is from 2014, but the internet is full of fake disks.

Who has an original Europe D Disk from Volvo, please verify the info from version.txt
