My 2007 XK has navigation. There are a lot of icons on the screen that cover up all of the streets - gas stations, resturants, etc. How do I get rid of them?

you have to go into your navigation settings add or delete markers that you want its on the main menu

 

In the nav screen look at POI ( points of interest) and turn off gas stations and restaurants.

Speaking of Navigation,,, how do I get the default state to change? Mine is set at Washington DC right now.

 

Go into your nav as if you were inputting a new destination. You should see a box with "search area", press that and you should see a map with your current search area highlighted. Just press a different area on the map and the search area will change.

 

Yeah but it goes right back to Washington DC the next time I use it. That's the problem.

 

Mine stayed when I just did it. I guess DC is the default area
