Default New to XKR EML issues

Hi Everyone.

I collected my first XKR 56 plate yesterday and within 3 hours the EML was on.

it had this issue before collecting her from the garage and it was down to a coolant temperature sensor. They ordered a new one and apparently when after fitting, it still wouldn’t turn the light out. So they put the old one back in and cleaned all the terminals etc.

The car car is running fine.

Ive spoken to the dealer and hoping they will call me back tomorrow to tell me they are going to look at this.

They kind of messed me around a bit during the buying process so I’m wondering if there is anything particular I should be making sure they do/check when the car goes back?

I guess I’m nervous they will just reset the light and then say tough.. your problem to fix it.

any suggestions?

Many thanks

I found, when I replaced my thermostat and housing, which includes a sensor, that I needed to disconnect the battery, touch the cables together, and reconnect (to do a system reset), so the car would relearn the sensors. Otherwise it had retained knowledge of the old sensor’s electrical profile, making the new sensor look ‘bad’.

If this is a reputable dealer then ask them to fix it and have them call you when it's done. Also if it were me I would also know that if the symptom comes back within 30 days after they fix it then I'll want my money back in full. Also as others will comment make sure the battery is fully charged so have them check that also. My 2 cents.

i have read this but as I’m new to this car I’m nervous of doing it..

I guess I’ll wait to see what the dealer says tomorrow and if I don’t get much joy I’ll try it

Nervous why? Usually only young drivers are nervous...us oldies are pretty outspoken!

PS: It would help if you included your country or state in your location, so that advice of specialists local to you could be given easily

I don’t want to break anything lol.. and then the garage say it’s my fault.

I feel at the moment because I haven’t had it for even 24 hours that it’s down to the garage to sort it out.

Im in the U.K. in Hampshire near Portsmouth

56 plate is UK.

Read the codes before taking it back but do not tell them you have. Then check they claim to have fixed things consistent with what you found out.

I’m in the U.K.

Im nervous of disconnecting stuff and causing further problems. It’s my first Jag and I just don’t know the car yet.

as for the dealer I feel it’s their responsibility at the moment as I haven’t even had the car 24 hours

It's theirs for at least 6 months, whatever they may say.

The level of responsibility varies with the age of the car - you have to be realistic - but for now yes it's their problem. However, you can read the codes without disconnecting anything and without leaving any evidence you read them

Just had the car back at the garage and it’s an air intake sensor. It also has a air con pipe that’s leaking in the passenger footwell.

they are going to order the part in and hopefully fix it Thursday.

Just ask them what was the code that makes them want to change the sensor. Also tell them that you want the bad part back or at least want to see it. As for the AC leak did you have time to use the AC and was it working. How did they find the leak . I'm a little suspicious of this one. Good luck.

I’m going to go to a mates garage in a min and get him to do the code for me and see what it is.

As for the air con. No not really. Had the climate control on but set at about 23 .. we did use the screen wash and just after noticed the water. I told them about this but they are insisting it’s the air con pipe.

I took a video of it leaking, I’ll try and add it to this post.

If there is water in the foot well, most likely the evaporator drain is clogged. Use the forum search function as this is a known issue that's been discussed many times.

Modifying the 'duckbill' drain is usually the method to correct the clog, but most specialists will advise lowering or removing the gearbox to reach the drain.
