P0087 Code - Fuel Pump Issue? or something else?
Hi all,
2009 XKR Convertible.
I just finished replacing a rear window regaultor / faulty soft top, took the car out for a spin and it died.
Symptoms are sudden loss of power, and the the engine barely idling.. all I can do is crawl along at around 2mph.
If I stop the engine and start the car again the power comes back for a short time (1 minutes up to 10 mins), then the same thing happens.
I also noticed the gearbox is not rev matching on downshifts when the power is there (but this might be a seporate issue)
Checked the codes and have P0087 - Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too Low Bank 1.
And U0402 - Invalid Data Received from TCM
EDIT - I just changed the fuel filter (it had the original from 2008 in it) - unfortuntely did not solve the problem.
Any ideas? - Could it be anything other than the fuel pump?
The fuel pump is not available in country for my car (even at the dealer).
Many thanks

hi.. thanks for the reply.
The pressure defintely drops.. I can see on the graph on the live data on my scan tool.
I just wanted to know if there could be anything electrical it could be - are there any electronics that control the fuel pump that could have gone bad?
The pump is not available here.. so I have to ship it in. so it will be way over $600, so wanted to be sure.

If you really want to be sure, use a pony pump (any fuel pump which provides the same pressure) and hook it up where the fuel filter goes. Use that pony pump hooked directly to voltage and see if the car starts and runs. Don't DRIVE it, because you may kill yourself and burn up a perfectly good car. If that works, then hook the pony pump up to the OEM wiring in the car. If it still runs, then it's the stock fuel pump.
You HAVE checked the voltage and fuses already, right?

Could the fuel pressure sensor be at fault?

on my reader im getting normal pressure, then it suddenly drop to almost zero.
