On my 2007 XK, the chrome partially peeled off at the gate near the "D". I don't even think you can buy that part; at least I was not able to find it in the Jaguar online parts catalog.

That is part of the gearshift assembly, P/N C2P5184. You don't even want to ask what the list price is. It is not obvious from the drawings that it can be easily removed for restoration.

If it can be removed I would probably artistically mask over the P R N D and S and repaint the rest of it. Sand and feather the damaged area first.

Or paste a Jaguar leaper or growler logo over the damaged area.

That was a fairly common problem with 2007-2009 XKs. I had the same problem three different times with my 08; all repaired under warranty. since you are no doubt off warranty, suggest you look for a disassembler such as Pacific in the Detroit area or Century in SoCal. Or, you can google Jaguar disassemblers and see what you come up with.

Here is what I would do.
Put 3m brushed black wrap on the entire thing, and leave the areas with the letters open. It will actually be an upgrade.
Any good wrap shop will be able to do it for you.
The price of the material is $3
They wrap entire cars in it and it looks very good, feels good too.

Thanks. I have the same problem with my 2008 XKR. Will pursue the suggestions. Is a Wrap shop same as upholstery shop?

No. Vehicle Wrap shops are all over every city, its a paint alternative. Just do a Bing search and you find several in your area.

Incidentally, it will wear much better than original paint.

This is the type of store you need.

Do they have to pull the trim off all around it / remove the shifter, or do they typically go right over the whole shifter and trim around ?
