Default The Palisades Fire killed my 2013 XKR

A sad tale - the infamous Palisades fire combined with an earlier personal accident managed to slay my much beloved 56k mile rhodium silver XKR vert. I had it insured with Hagerty at an agreed value of $35k. There was heavy smoke damage, particularly to the top, and in the trunk(boot). In addition some rodents displaced by the fire got in to the wiring and had a picnic. Hagertiy estimated the repairs to have a starting point of $34.5+ who knows how much after the techs got into it. Therefore they totaled the car and paid me the agreed value.

The XKR was my all-time favorite auto which I enjoyed taking up in the Santa Monica mountains or other similar places on a weekly basis. At my age I don't think I will replace it, but I am toying with the idea. At any rate, if I do replace it, that will have to wait until we are back in our home which suffered "moderate to severe" smoke and ash damage and has no current potable water. Best estimate as to completion of repairs and availability of pure water is some where in excess of 6-8+ months. In the meantime we will be in a 2 bedroom furnished apartment. On the other hand we are extremely fortunate compared to several friends and many others who lost their homes, autos (including at least one collector Ferrari), clothing, etc.. Many with no or inadequate insurance; on balance, things could be a lot worse.

So sad Ralph. Had hoped your XKR could be rescued and restored. But in the end, it is a ‘thing’, and you are safe and well after such a tragic series of events. Stay well.

Happy to hear you and yours are well. You can always find another car. And always fix a house.

Glad to finally hear from you. It was mentioned in another thread whilst the fires were raging, your home and Jag had been damaged.

Damn, that is horrible news. You are okay, and your family is as well? In the end, that's what matters. I'm really sorry Ralph.

Thank you for all the good thoughts. Long story short, not only did we survive with no physical (or mental) damage; our children and four grandchildren's house is erect and will be livable about the same time ours is. We are counting our blessings!!

Hi Ralph,
I know when we spoke just after the fire had started that you suspected the XKR was gone, sorry to hear. Hope you and Karen are comfortable, and the offer is always open if you need a place to stay. I have a very close longtime friend that lost his home. I've built him a little sifter so that he and his wife can start going through the ash. I have several other friends and clients in the Highlands where you are who are not back in their homes yet either. I hope you're well and let's get together sometime soon.
Ted
