Question About Auto-Dimming Side Mirrors
Hello everyone,
I've had my 2008 Jaguar XK for the better part of 3 years now and have always had a problem with getting blinded by cars behind me from my drivers-side wing mirror. When I originally purchased the car the drivers-side wing mirror had gone dark due to the auto-dimming gel leaking out due to age - I assume - so I ordered a new driver's-side glass assembly and plugged it in. Ever since then the auto dimming function has never worked. The passenger-side mirror works perfectly fine, even when I swapped them around to see if the connectors or the mirrors were the issue the glass I purchased for the driver's-side did not auto-dim.
I am going to order a new driver's-side glass mirror assembly in hopes that this will fix my issue but I wanted to basically double check that this isn't something present on all x150 XKs. I assume my glass just doesn't want to work for whatever reason or I purchased the wrong one somehow, not sure but whatever the case.
- Should both driver and passenger side wing mirrors be capable of auto-dimming?

If your windshield, side windows, or rear glass is aftermarket tinted, that could prevent your automatic dimming from working properly.
Here's how to test your automatic dimming. Use a bright LED flashlight and feel behind the interior mirror for a hole. That's the light sensor. Put a finger or a piece of black electrical tape over it to block the light, so the sensor thinks its night time. Then shine your flashlight through the hole in the front of the mirror to make the sensor think its a car's headlights behind you. The interior and both outside mirrors should darken after about 30 seconds to a minute.
If nothing happens, you don't have the automatic dimming feature or it's broken.

I have the same problem on the passenger side of my 2008 XKR. A portion of the mirror is speckled & clouded. These are folding wing mirrors, heated & electrochromatic. Where can I get a replacement, and what is the process for removal/replacement?
Thanks
Thanks
