Default Question on brake bleeding

Bled my brakes the other day and got a good amount of fluid out through both nipples on my Alcon calipers.

The rear left wheel had a significant amount of air come out to the point where I bled it 3 times before the air stopped bubbling.

Only problem was, after taking out a good amount of fluid from the calipers, the fluid level in the reservoir did not change at all!

Doesn't seem normal. Even after driving around for a bit, the level did not change. Am I missing something here?

Why did the brakes need bleeding and why was there air in the system?

The fluid was due to be changed, and they felt a bit spongy. No leaks noted around the abs pump or brake master cylinder.

There may still be air trapped, thus the fluid level remaining the same.

The question becomes: how did air enter the system.

Could have happened when I changed the pads and rotors.

Maybe I should try to bleed them again.

I also suggest that you take it a shop that has a pneumatic power-bleed set-up and pay them flush and bleed your entire system.

If nothing else, this should also prolong the life of your master cylinder if it does not need servicing byl saving you from wearing your leg out along with what's left of the master cylinder's seals and bore.

Unless you opened the bleeder valve when you changed the pads and rotors you shouldn't have had any air in the system unless it is getting in.
