Default Rear fog light question

Yes I did Google it...but I need to hear from the gurus -

I put on my rear fog lights for the first time and I only have one working [drivers side]. Is this correct? My research tells me that this is how is should be [because if both are working then it will appear that you are braking all the time]..

What say you?

You win! Next you'll have to explain to your friends why you have only one back up light.

Unless you upgrade to a 2010+ model (or the tail lights from one), then you have a backup and fog on both sides.

Why do 4.2L models have only one fog light? The fog light is always on the driver's side; right rear on RHD cars and left rear on LHD cars. The reason is because you're more visible to drivers behind you when that fog light is nearest the center line of the roadway. Also, since that rear fog light is as bright as a brake light, it's less likely that a driver behind you will confuse a single bright tail light with your brake lights. European drivers are more tuned into this feature than we are because I think that's the law on the other side of the pond. See my post #6: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lights-155495/ for more details.

I use it as an anti-tailgating annoyance device, which works most of the time. (4.2, single light).

I think the single rear fog light may have been a statutory/legal requirement in UK in 2007.
As mentioned above, it is placed on the driver's side (left in N. America and right in UK)
In my opinion this single rear fog light is more confusing to other drivers than useful. I have found it better to use emergency flashers in severe fog conditions.
I also disliked the single backup light.
I wanted dual back up lights. I found on eBay UK a left-side rear light assembly for about $50. I swapped it in my '07 and now have two back up lights. I disconnected power to the abandoned rear fog light, and simply connected the new backup light to the preexisting backup light.
I don't like the pulsing of the backup lights; and much prefer a steady light beam. I suspect the pulse control/function is buried somewhere in the vehicle's software. Does anybody know how to change this pulse to a steady beam? Thanks.

Never heard of pulsing reverse lights, are you sure you haven't done something wrong?

You could add a relay, triggered by the pulsing backup signal, and then feed the lights a steady 12v. Not sure if the steady 12v will harm the lights or not.
Search for the thread about installing LED tail lights, and you'll find a link to a PDF file by George Kale, where he shows the parts and connection to add such a relay for the LED lights.
You'll only need one relay, as you only want to run the backup lights from it.
