Rear trunk lid emblem replacement
Hello all. My R emblem on the trunk lid is faded and I ordered a replacement from Jaguar. It has sticky tape on the back. Is this all that holds it on? I would have thought a couple of plastic snaps on the back. What would be best way to pry off the old one and I guess just stick the new one on? Thanks!
That's all there is, adhesive of whatever type.
The best/only way to remove the existing emblem is with monofilament fishing line. Use it like a wire saw and gradually work it between the deck lid and the emblem. It should take less than a minute to work it off.

If you don't have monofilament fishing line, use dental floss. It won't scratch the paint. If you don't have a heat gun, use a hair dryer.
Before you remove the old badge, use masking tape to mark the horizontal and vertical alignment for the new badge. Prep the paint surface with an alcohol wipe before sticking the new badge on.

When I replaced mine, I cut it off with dental floss and then used a heat gun and GooGone to remove the left over part of the tape. As Stuart mentioned use rubbing alcohol to prep the painted surface before installing the new one.

In addition to all the good advice above, do NOT work in the cold. If your environment is cold, use a heat gun (or hair dryer) to warm up the panel a little, and also to warm up the badge (metal side). The adhesive they use for these things doesn't like being applied in the cold. We are talking warm here, not hot. Once the badge has been applied (following all the advice above) press it firmly in position and hold for about a minute. The adhesive takes 24 hours to fully cure, so try not to drive the car in the meantime. Obviously, do not wash the car either for 24 hours.
Using these recommended techniques, you will get a bond which will never fail. I even applied an R badge to my front wire grille this way - the adhesive is only in contact with the grill wires, but the badge is still there! (The 2008 MY XKR doesn't have the R badge that the later models have).
