Needed a new oil plug and called nearest Jag dealer, they wanted over $20 for it!!
Called a local car shop like Autozone and they had it for $4!:-)

It is unbelievable how expensive certain parts are from Jaguar.

I am looking for the little oval plastic part that is the Access Cover to the manual Convertible Top C2P21483AMN. Jaguar want $60 for the part!! It's a little piece of plastic!!

The auto parts chain stores have parts, that will fit. In example I shopped Advance Auto Parts, their price for brake pads and calipers is $100. per axel. Same for air filters, batteries, and other standard maintenance parts.

You know those little push pin fasteners that hold the plastic access panels under the hood? Well I had a dealer in Orlando price them at $10 each. Kind of makes your eyes water don't it.

LOL, especially when you can get 10 for $15

Amazon Amazon

Also, just in case someone was wondering the plastic bolt caps that cover the nuts for the tail lights on the inside of boot/trunk can be found cheap as well...

Amazon Amazon

It would make for a very interesting exercise if someone were to price every single part required to build an entire car using prices from the Jaguar parts department, to see what the total cost of an non-assembled car would be.

Any guesses on the over/under at $500,000.00!

Hope you won’t need Mercedes or Infiniti parts! Had 2 Infiniti door cards replaced under warranty recently at a cost of four grand not including labor and a Mercedes arm rest was several hundred.

You can get the O-ring on the oil drain plug separately.

I used to give the drain plug back and ask for this o-ring when vehicles came in for service, and yes its ridiculous what they charge for some things...... but this is nature in the world of branding.

It's no difference in buying a smart phone for $1,000 when you can buy one for $200 that does the exact same thing....

Naw, what Ian asked is why change the metal part when a forty-cent O-ring would suffice.

Sorry, missunderstood!:-)
I would never pay the OEM price for a oil plug but for $4 I like the vulked on rubber seal better then a 40 cent O-ring.:-)

You wouldn't and I wouldn't, but it's the sort of thing they do at a dealer, perhaps to allow for the existing one having been over-tightened.

(I had your thought on my STR about 8 years ago. Bought ONE plug and on removing the existing one figured both it and the new one were fine. Didn't buy any more drain plugs.)

Had a closer look at the oil plug and as you say it's just an O-ring! I thought the OEM plug had the rubber seal vulked/pressed on the bolt!?:-)

Well, you live and learn!:-D

It's even more ridiculous of Jaguar to have the customer pay for a whole new bolt when they could just replace the seal!
