Default Safe to Use New Mahle Fuel Filter With Small Dent?

I recently purchased a 2008 XKR Portfolio coupe with just over 60K miles. The car didn't come with a service history, so I am changing fluids, filters, and worn suspension components. I'm content to use non-OEM parts if there is a cost savings and the quality of the aftermarket part is at least equal to the OEM part.

Through the power of the internet, I was able to track down a Mahle KL598 fuel filter for about half the cost of an OEM Jaguar fuel filter. Unfortunately, when I opened the Mahle box, I immediately noticed that the Mahle labeled fuel filter had a 5/8" dent along the edge of the inlet side.

The web based vender from whom I ordered the filter is now showing out of stock for Mahle fuel filters. So exchanging it doesn't appear to be an option. Would you consider this fuel filter safe to use? Would you feel comfortable using it in your own car?

Best Regards,

As long as there is no damage around the nipple area, I'd have no qualms whatsoever.

+1

Fit it and check for leaks. As long as the filter body and connections remain dry it'll be OK.

Is there corresponding damage on the box to indicate either it was dropped or something was dropped on it? If not, I'd be very curious to know how it happened.

Thanks for the sanity check, gents. I didn't think it would be an issue, but I would really hate to be wrong with pressurized fuel.

There was no damage to the outer shipping box, and the vendor used plenty of padding. The Mahle packaging/box is a little tattered around the edges, but was tightly sealed with clear tape. There is a corresponding divot in the Mahle packaging/box. It appears it was dropped (in it's original box) somewhere in its life prior to shipping.

I'll install it later today.

Best Regards,

Don't be so cheap! If it were me I'd find another source and get a new one and carry your damaged one as a spare. I always carry a spare one after a tank full of bad gas in the sticks of southern Oregon many years a go................good security..

Cheers Adrian
