Default Is this satnav upgrade ok or fake?

I would like to update my very original 2006 satnav database. This is very cheap: 2017 Jaguar Sat Nav Update Discs

I just don't trust a website whose "user reviews" (?) ALL seem to give 5/5 stars...!

I guess I can't even downgrade to original if i need to.

As far as I know, the latest discs are 2012 genuine for our cars. I wouldn't buy one of those if it were me.

2013-2014 was the last update for the 2007-2011 MYs.

I only found a 2011-20122 disc series from Ebay. Bought that one for 100 dollars. Better than a 2006 disc I hope.

The map disc for the XK is the same one used in the XF to 2011, the Freelander2, Discovery3, Range Rover Sport to 2009, early editions of the Aston V8 Vantage, and various Volvo models, some Japanese cars as well which use a Denso Nav.

There are some "2017" versions kicking around on the internet, no idea if they are legit or not. I suspect that someone perhaps got hold of a Volvo or other brand disc and are selling them for the other compatible marques now...

Be clear these are not "genuine" discs by any stretch, they will be burnt DVD-R's.

The longevity of burnt discs vs. original pressed ones, and what effects they might have on the DVD drive itself, is a whole other discussion.

I have a Galaxy 6S and I no longer use the built in GPS. The smart phone GPS has constantly updated information and offers alternative routes when they look to be better than the original routing. The same is true for Iphones as you can download Google maps on either android or Iphones.

Another BIG advantage of Android GPS and the Waze app is accurate, up-to-date real-time detailed traffic information, including city streets as well as interstates. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...com.waze&hl=en

I'm waiting for a standalone, aftermarket Apple CarPlay/Android Auto device that will display those maps seamlessly from my smartphone. By the time that comes out (if ever), I'll probably buy another car that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built in.

I see no reason to buy updated maps for my cars, as my Android smartphone is better with free maps/apps that are constantly updated.

I've been looking at this combo and thinking on how to simply "overlay" the existing NAV screen and it has a built-in rear camera too with "free" updates.

All this talk had me thinking... how can I spend $250 in 1 minute.
Pleasantly surprised the package took only less than 1 day (in fact 19 hours) to deliver to my house.

I wonder if this will change in the future when a wall goes up between Canada and the US, (paid by Canadians of course) to keep the illegal Canadian weather out of the US.

I bought the jaguar ones for $199. Pleased with them though most of the time I use Waze. I tend to drive at 90 mph everywhere and need those police warnings.
