Default The search begins

Well my old Ferrari has left the garage forever today. So now the search begins for a replacement. After seeing the new F-Type we are now looking for an XKR. The target year will most likely be a 2012 convert. So far after some initial exploration it looks like I may be limited in color selection. It appears based on what I've seen on all of the usual car sites and dealer locations that there are a large number of Black , Silver , Ebony and White listed. As we go into the winter months here there won't be much of a selection so I'll do some searching in the sun states. I'll give it 6 months and see what I come up with.

Curious, why did you sell your f-type? You may also want to look into a Xkr-s vert. I have a white RS and there is a white Xkr with a black pack in my neighborhood that looks great.

Sorry we didn't have an F-type but looked/drove one and found it to small for us. We had an old 308 and had a lot of fun with it but it wasn't that practical. We are looking for a daily driver to jump in and take 4 hour trips when we want. So I'll be looking for something in Blue or Red or Green and hopefully find one in the next 6 months.

I just bought a 2010 XK coupe from a dealer in Chicago and got a great deal. From my nationwide search, it appears that deals are to be had, not in the South but the North. Sales drop off in winter for cars people tend to garage this time of year. The selling season is longer and subsequently, the prices are higher in the South.

Start calling your local Jag dealers with what you are looking for. Maybe they can secure a lease return. I think they all go through Manheim unless a dealer can get it before the auction.

I looked nationwide for a car, but in the end, it was one Jag dealer that really put the effort in to find me a car, and they called me with the car I finally bought.

Good point. Mine was actually on a truck heading for Manheim when I bought it. They ended up shipping it back to the dealership. A day or two later and it would have been gone.

Yeah, the non-greyscale colours aren't as common. There are 74 XKRs on sale from authorised dealers here in the UK right now:

8 Blue (3 are Azurite, which is so dark it's almost black, and one is Crystal Blue, which is basically silver)
0 Green
12 Red

I'm not a big fan of the plain Salsa red, but the Claret and Italian Racing Red are more interesting.

Good to hear you're not rushing into it. I bought my current 2013 XKR, in August, with all the options I wanted, dynamic pack and performance exhaust, in the color I wanted used with only 300 miles on it in West Palm Beach, FL at a super great price. I had it auto transported to me in Canada.

Good luck with your XKR hunting. Shop nation wide.

It's the same here in Canada. Very few blues, reds or greens. I see silver and black every day (many in my office parking garage) but seeing a red or blue one is a rarity. I really wanted a blue one and was lucky that one came up from the JLR head office back in Feb. Its a 2012 and only had 900 miles on it and they gave me a great deal along with the new car warranty. As others have said if you get some feelers out there you should be able to find what you're looking for. Good luck with the search!

This was the last picture before my old car left. I don't think Jaguar has this kind of red . Time to move on.

I can recommend the Kyanite Blue, but sadly it was discontinued after they built my 2010 XKR.

I would try the south Florida or Ft Meyers Naples market. These area tend to have garaged kept low mile Jags that only get used on sunny days or in the winter when some come to visit. I am from Fl and looked many months before buying from south Fl dealer which was 3hrs to the south of me. Good deal and treatment. Alpine Jaguar was who I used. In fact I was told they are selling and leasing F types so people are trading or turning in the XK,s. Just a thought. Good luck.

I'd imagine this is the case for the whole sun belt region of the USA. Time to call several dealers and work with a few salespeople you connect with.

I had a good experience with my salesperson if you want to give me a PM. I'm sure she'll find you the car your want in a cool color.
