Default Seat recalibration question

hey everybody -

I have an issue with my drivers seat and I am hoping to get some advice from this great forum. The issue is that it does not recline all the way back and it's driving me nuts. I am losing about an inch of reclining rake on my drivers seat and because of that I am not sitting comfortable as I would like. I have tried a dozen ways to adjust the seat with the buttons but no luck. Upon examination, my passenger seats reclines an inch further back than my drivers seat. Below is a photo of exactly where my problem is. This is a photo that Leeper was nice enough to post and I put a white arrow where mine is stopping an inch short.

Do you think this is a seat motor issue? Or maybe the seat needs to be recalibrated by the dealer?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I dunno, I think that's probably by design. You'd be surprised how much your seat moves when you sit down, or if you accelerate hard (or get rear ended).

EDIT--just saw you said the pax seat reclines further. I'll have to check it out on my XKR... when it gets back from the shop!

But it seems strange that Leepers seat can recline back further than mine. Why would my design be different from his? Can somebody else with a coupe post a pic of how far back their drivers seat reclines...it would be very much appreciated.

I still need to check my XKR, but I'm guessing possible reasons could be some sort of factors for the steering wheel/column and the pedals.

Question: would the amount of reclining be determined by the motor itself of by a sensor of some kind? Maybe the seat motor is good but something is telling it to stop prematurely.

The dealer diagnostic computer can re-calibrate the seats. There also could be seat related fault codes that can be read.

Also check the seat tracks to insure that there are no obstructions, like a ball point pen that fell down there at some point...

I checked and there are no obstructions. I called the Jaguar Dealer in Paramus NJ and they told me that they do not do recalibration of the seats. I was very disappointed to say the least. I have to try another dealer now.

The RECLINE is dependent upon the other seat positions. IE; height of seat, forward/backward position, etc. Move the whole seat forward and it should recline further. Move it down and it won't recline as much and so forth.

I tried all of the infinite possible adjustments but no matter what I do I can't get it to recline back as far as it should go. I checked it against another xk coupe of the same year and that seat reclines back about 2 inches further than mine. I really need to get this fixed because right now I do not feel comfortable when I drive and if I can't fix this then I will have to sell the car. Sad but true. I just can't believe the Jaguar dealer near me would not even touch it.

I am going to another Jaguar dealer next week to see what he can do. If he can't fix it then I will try an independent shop and if he can't fix it then I might buy another seat from the same year and swap over the frame. Very frustrating indeed. Beautiful car....just wish I could drive it.

I would assume anybody with access to SDD should be able to do it for you. The options were in the menu when I was poking around on my '07.

The Jaguar dealer in Paramus NJ told me that my 2007 xk is too old and they don't go back that far. So I will be trying another dealer.

Try pulling and resetting fuse F9 which controls the seat logic. Some members have had success doing this when the seat(s) are totally inoperable.

Possibly some good news!!! The 07 seats can be re-calibrated by the dealer. See this thread specifically post #6.

Pulling the fuses hasn't helped. I will be at the dealer on Tuesday morning and I will post back the results.

Seat is fixed. The Morris County Jaguar dealer in New Jersey fixed it. They took my car in, ran some diagnostics and an overall health checkup and recalibrated the seats. Total bill is $130
Needless to say I am a very happy camper. Now I can sit and actually feel comfortable in this car. Life is good again. Two thumbs up for them - excellent service overall.

Mine was the opposite problem, driver's seat back wouldn't come upright enough for comfortable driving and moving the seat back or reclining further the backrest collided with the seatbelt housing under the rear side window. Same problem with passenger seat. Fixed by recalibration in SDD. Thanks to these posts I didn't start by removing the seat.
