Side marker lights stay on ALL the time
Turned out the lights in the garage last night and thought I saw something. Sure enough the 2 little LEDs in the headlight Identified as #1 Side Lamp is staying on on each side.
Even after Ignition off, and car has set for hours.
Note this out of the Owners manual and the last note.
"With the rotary collar in the OFF position, low beam headlamps, side lamps, tail, number plate lamps and, where fitted, side marker lamps will switch on automatically with the following conditions: • The ignition is in on (Scandinavia only). • The vehicle gear selector out of P (Park). • The parking brake is not applied (is released)"
Trying to figure out which circuit handles this operation.

I have also noticed that they come on again if I open the boot but leave the rest of the car locked.
Yes, the first gen X150 did not have LEDs in the headlights and some aftermarket, even major brand, will stay illuminated perpetually.
If the fob battery’s flat, the console dock communicates with the RFID so you’re still able to start the car.

You have, no doubt, found the service and electrical manuals at the top of the forum.
The front lights are controlled via the Front Smart Junction Box (FSJB) adjacent to your left foot.
Solid state switching of marker lights typically allows sufficient leakage to illuminate the LEDs.

Hi
I have a XK 2006 model and the lights remain on even when ignition off and then the car will not start I have to disconnect the battery to get it started again, I have installed a new battery and I still have the same problem.

Did you CHARGE the new battery? New batteries have been sitting around for sometimes up to a year without being charged. I just got a new battery myself and charged it for over well over twelve hours before it finished. With an actual charger, not a maintainer nor trickle charger.
Do you mean that the main beam lights remain on or parking lights? Front and rear or just front?
All front lights are controlled by the FSJB and rear lights are controlled by the RSJB.
As Ceejay said: low battery, does strange things due to solid-state controls. Lights remaining on with switch off is a known issue for low battery.
What is the history of your XK? How long have you owned it? In addition to low voltage, a defective light switch stalk or FSJB can cause front lights to remain on.
If new to you XK, check the part number on the side of the FSJB to confirm that it is the correct part. (Very hard to read in place. Try light and mirror.)
There are at least three versions of XK/R FSJB and they are NOT interchangeable!
