Sliding centre console lid on 09 XKR
My centre console lid latch mechanism has failed and I'm unable to lift the console lid even when pulling up the chrome latch. A photo of the underside of the lid would be helpful as I'm not sure where the lid hold downs are located.
The console lid will slide but not lift. Help would be appreciated as I'm 3 hours from a Jaguar dealer

Haven't looked at mine, but if you can slide the top back, and if as Ranchero50 states, there are tabs from the top that engage the bottom, the bottom must have a groove that the top tabs ride in as it slides.
Try sliding the top back, and then find something to fill the grooves. Something that has a wedge shape, with the point to the rear, such that when you slide the cover forward, the tabs on both sides will ride 'up' the wedges and be forced out of the grooves, allowing you to lift the cover.
Again, since I haven't looked, I don't know if something toothpick sized would work, or take a couple of small pieces of wood or plastic and file them down to fit the grooves.
EDIT: Ignore the above, that won't work. Took a look at mine on the way to work, and the tabs don't ride in a groove with the top, but instead are attached to the rear (non-sliding) part of the top, and hook into notches in the bottom. Since the tabs retract into posts on the bottom of that rear section, it would be hard (or impossible) to slide something under there and get enough leverage to retract the tabs.
EDIT: Just saw Ranchero50's pictures, yup that's gonna be a bear to get open.

Sorry for the poor quality pics but here's what the bottom looks like. Two side tabe are actuated by cables from the chrome pull release.
They engage these little slots in the compartment.
really bad shot of whats in the lid.
Looking at the service manual the lid hinge bolts are hidden by the closed lit. Bummer. You need to get the tabs popped.

When you pull up on the chrome latch handle, can you lift up either side of the cover?
Wondering if the problem is at the latch handle, or at the individual tabs.
It would be unlikely that both tabs would have a problem at the same time, so while pulling up on the handle, if you can 'twist' the cover one way or the other, it would tell you that one of the tabs has a problem, and if it would 'twist' enough, you might unlatch the other side.
If it doesn't 'twist' at all, the problem may be at the handle.
From the picture, it looks like the handle may be held by 4 torx screws.
If you pull out the cup holder, to give yourself a bit more working room, you might be able to get a short torx driver up there with the cover pulled part way back.
Removing the screws should free the handle, so you can get to those 'pull cables' to pull them manually.

I got mine open in seconds using a plastic filling knife. If you slide the corner of the knife down the side of the lid you will hit the shroud around the tab (see pic for approx location). I was able to use the point of the knife to push the tab in.
Pushing one in retracts the other one as well but if your cables are broken you may have to do both simultaneously.
