Default Slightly high revs at startup

Hi, Jaguar XK 2013. 27000 miles. Live in Scotland
I've had the car for 3 months now and it's been faultless, except for replacing key fob battery. Absolutely in love with the car.
Just one question, is it normal at startup for the revs to go to 1200 rpm, then fall to 700rpm? I'm presuming this is normal as it is very precise, everytime from cold start, 1200, then after 30 seconds, 700.

Yes. In warmer weather or if it's already warmed up, it will drop to normal idle RPM a little faster.

Cheers shemp, that's what I thought. I personally love it, but I leave for work at 5.00am sometimes and I think my neighbours may love me a little less on those mornings 😂

Yes completely normal. If you have the sports exhaust it sounds amazing.

The revs are higher at cold or cool start up to get some heat into the cats so they can start working sooner

NORMAL - this higher revs on cold start used to be explained in Owner's Handbooks for earlier models but Jaguar didn't include the information with X150 models.

The reason for higher revs is to achieve rapid warm-up and reduce emissions. Most of us are more interested in the added benefit of reduced bore and bearing wear.

I second that, mine is a 2014 Dynamic R & when started from cold sounds like I've woken a hibernating bear by poking a hot poker up its 4rse

On first cold start up in the morning, my car revs to 2000 rpms at the inital turnover, then drops to about 1400 rpms for a couple of minutes and then drops down to 750-800 rpms once warmed. Seems quite normal to me.

My 2010 XK does the exact thing, i won't shift it till the RPM's drop below 1000, maybe a 30 second wait.
